Offered is a large, hanging antique mahogany birdcage with its original wood stand with gilt decorations. The bird cage is mahogany with wires wires, and has a removable tray that slides in/out from the front. The stand has three legs, and supports the cage from a hook in the top-center. The stand comes apart in the middle, held together by a connecting screw with a finial on top. The grooves all over the stand appear hand carved.
The cage and stand have impressed numbers in various places. The inside-bottom of the cage has a LC 812, the tray bottom has an 812, the top of where the stand top connects has what appears to be a 718. There is another lighter mark on the bottom of one leg, too.
There are some dings here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. The finish seems to be all original, including the gilding. The spot where one leg is connected is missing some finish, but could be touched up by a skilled wood finisher. Overall, this antique birdcage and stand is pretty sturdy, but I'm not sure how a bird shaking it around would hold up, so be careful if you decided to use it for a real bird. There is a perch inside, which likely held a fake or taxidermy bird. There are no signs of a live bird ever being held in this cage.
The cage measures:
16-1/2"W on the square
About 23-1/4"W corner to corner
Door opening is about 6-3/4" x 6-3/4"
