One of the greatest picture books of 20th century. Caldecott Medal Winner, and on 100 Years, 100 children's picture books and illustrated books list. Ignites a child's imagination with fantastic story line, beautiful simplicity and underlying message of peace.!!

COLLECTOR'S 1967 out-of-print true first edition vintage hardcover children's book with scarce original 45 rpm record - Drummer Hoff. Adapted by Barbara Emberley. Dazzling color illustrations by Ed Emberley. These hard-to-find sets were made for schools in the 1960s.

Rare Extras: Two additional flexible vinyl records: 1968 Caldecott Medal Acceptance Speech and All About Animals - Poetry for Primary Classes. Publisher: Prentice-Hall Inc, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, Copyright 1967 true first edition, 3rd printing, June, 1968. No ISBN. Not ex-library.

Original folk song cleverly adapted by Barbara Emberley. Terrific rhyming words, fun repetition, children quickly memorize words and love to take part in reading. Gorgeous artistic lines; each painting a brilliant work of art. Photos do not fully capture stunning color hues; wait until you see up close. WOW!!

PLOT: Drummer Hoff and fellow bespangled soldiers construct a canon. As verses continue each company member adds its own touch. Final scene, canon abandoned by men, baby birds grow in its mouth. Now see smiling sun. Grasshoppers frolic, spider spins web, FLOWERS everywhere. Wonderful story with a beautiful message of peace!!

Oblong hardcover, red pictorial boards, caldecott gilt medallion, 10" x 8", 34pp. Children's record in original sleeve. Illustrations MINT. Binding tight. Fine vintage condition. Pages fine/bright/clean/crisp/minimal wear if any. Cover near fine/bright/clean/light shelfwear includes little edgewear medallion-light corner bumps-peek. Cover blur-just photo. Record excellent-no scratches that we see.

Do not pass up this outstanding gem; no children's collection should be without it; will make a FABULOUS gift!!
