RARE 1960 vintage hardcover book - Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. Has collector's original dust jacket illustrated by Allan Mardon with the Orient Express train and images of the all-star cast of characters.

Hollywood movie stars from the 1974 British film version portrayed in the fabulous dust jacket illustration by Allan Mardon include Albert Finney (as Agatha Christie’s Belgian crime sleuth Hercule Poirot), Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, Lauren Bacall, Michael York, Richard Widmark, Vanessa Redgrave, Anthony Perkins, Martin Balsam, Jacqueline Bisset, Wendy Hiller, John Gielgud and Rachel Roberts.

This film version was the first of a number of "all-star" adaptations of Agatha Christie novels in the 1970s and early 1980s. It was the one in which Finney portrayed Poirot - in all subsequent films the Belgian detective was portrayed by Peter Ustinov. Agatha Christie's solution to the murder of Mr. Ratchet on the Orient Express is one of the most unusual Christie ever devised.

Page 62 has important black & white drawing of train layout. “Also published as Murder in the Calais Coach” stated on dustjacket and the copyright page. Publisher: Dodd Mead & Co, New York, Copyright, 1933, 1960 bce edition, probable 1970's printing. No isbn. Not ex-library.

Plot: Detective Hercule Poirot never refused an interesting case but his services were certainly not for sale. When Mr. Ratchett approached him in the dining car, he spurned the American's generous offer. But when Ratchett was found dead the next morning, Poirot responded with alacrity. Mysterious clues clouded the crime, but one fact was abundantly clear-with the train trapped in a heavy Balkan snowdrift, the killer could not escape.

Allan Mardon, who had a long career as a well-known New York illustrator. He is now best known for his “second career” as an important Western painter of the history and culture of Native Americans.

Hardcover, pictorial DJ, green leatherette boards, vibrant spine titles, 5"x 8", 213pp. Binding tight. Pages near fine/bright/clean/minimal wear-few pp light corner crease. Cover excellent/very good+/bright/clean/some shelfwear includes edgewear-few small indents top-bottom/light corner bumping rubbing. DJ bright/general shelfwear-see photo-front flap missing.
