Marny Clifford was reared in New England; Clark Clifford in St. Louis, for several decades, from the post-war ‘50s to the post-Vietnam ‘80s, served as an advisor to Presidents of both parties – Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Carter. They met in Germany, married, lived in St. Louis for thirteen years, moved to Washington in 1946. Before she married, she was a graduate of Fannie Farmer School of Cooking in Boston. In addition to cooking American food dishes that show her New England roots, she also served up authentic dishes from the Caribbean to Indonesia – very outré at the time.
