This antique –coffee and cream- mulatto doll is a fine example of the series of French Colonial dolls, made by SFBJ/Unis France. This doll represents Martinique and is known as ‘la martiniquaise’.
She measures 10” (11” with headscarf) and this beauty is all original : fantastic wig, pupilless glas eyes, a happy smile, tiny teeth and comes on her 5-part composition body with flawless bodycoloring.
Most amazing is her clothing : sewn with care, see the pleats and the many glass-beads on costume and headwear !
She’s wearing 3 layers of underclothing underneath an she even has still her necklace and bracelet.
This type of doll came always without shoes.
Condition : excellent, perfect bisque, composition without damage, never played with. Stringing is a bit loose. Silk waistband is fraying.
Marked : In an oval : Unis France 60 / 11/149
Under her skirt there is a handwritten note : “l’est de France – décembre 1930”
This Doll has been in my collection for many years and is one of the best examples I ever saw !
Armchair is not included.
