This is a very nice round Sheffield Silver Co. Covered Casserole with a 1 1/2 quart Pyrex casserole insert. The Sheffield Silverplate Covered Casserole has decorative openwork handles and a pineapple finial. (The pineapple is a traditional symbol of hospitality). The bottom is marked: "The Sheffield Silver Co., Made in U.S.A." and the same mark is on the inside of the handle. The Pyrex dish is marked: "023 1 1/2 Qt., Trade Mark, BB 24, Pyrex, R in a circle, Made in USA and Oven Ware". The patina on this piece is beautiful in a rainbow of colors. There are two small cracks in the cover along the edge.
