Silk has been synonymous with luxury as long as it has been in existence; and this lush, rare antique example of the finest silk used in an upperclass Victorian Household is singular in both its quality and condition. In my 30+ years of antique doll experience, I have never come across another piece in this condition, with this coloring and attention to acute, delicate detailing. Without any structural damage or significant imperfection, this beautiful piece is a preserved artifact of the past that belongs in a world class collection of Victorian doll clothing and/or textiles. A versatile piece, it can be used as a peignoir for your best, larger French Fashion lady, or as delicate dress cover for a little baby doll! Decorated with extraordinary silk floss smocking of innumerable gathers at the collar and cuffs, no expense was spared in the creation of this beauty. With nearly all of its vibrant original sweet pink coloring, this stunning silk gown is a rare artifact of the past.
Top to bottom: 21" Shoulder to Shoulder: 7" Shoulder to Cuff: 8" Cuff Circumference: 5"
Condition: Overall, EXCELLENT antique condition, without any rips or structural snags. There are some VERY minute water stains that can really only be seen when you look for them, and there are a few small holes (none exceeding the size of a pencil eraser.) Overall, I have never found a silk jacket in quite such lovely shape, and I am sure its new owner will be exceedingly pleased with it.
