This delightful darling is just as sweet as they come! She is a fine example of what the German doll industry had to offer during the heyday of the character doll era (circa 1910-1917). This Simon & Halbig 1299 mold has wonderfully molded chubby cheeks, with the cutest dimple on her chin. She’s all dressed up in a gorgeous antique green dress and matching hat, with purple accents. What a darling little character girl she is!

She has a bisque socket head, with blue sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, fine light brown feathered and textured brows, an open mouth with two upper teeth, pierced ears, and a dimpled chin. She stands at 21.5” on a stamped antique fully-jointed wood and composition Handwerck body, and wears a vintage light brown human hair wig.
She is dressed in an antique green dress, with a checked green and white wool skirt and sleeves, and a dark green corduroy bodice and sleeve cuffs, with lace trim at the collar and above the hem and a purple sash at the waist. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton full slip, with lace trim on the bodice and eyelet lace trim on the hem, and a pair of antique white cotton pantaloons with lace trim. On her feet are a pair of cream-colored crochet socks and modern-made green leather shoes with green rosettes. On her head is a tall green straw hat, with a wide purple band and a spray of purple silk flowers, with a label inside reading “Roguey Original Kansas City.” In her ears are a pair of earrings with pale green glass beads and clear seed beads.
MARKS: 1299 / HALBIG / S&H / 8 ½ [incised, back of head]
2 ½ / Heinrich Handwerck / Germany [stamped, back and side of torso]
CONDITION: Generally excellent. The bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, with the most particular attention paid to her painting and modeled-features. The glass eyes sleep well and are aligned well in the head. The wood and composition body has held up well over the years, with typical age wear; two fingers on the right hand appear to have been reglued, and there is some paint chipping at the joints. The costume is in great condition, with some moth holes and other areas of wear. A wonderful rarer character girl; she is very desirable to collectors of antique character dolls. This is an uncommon mold with so much appeal! Be the first one in your doll circle to own one of these beauties!
