He has a bisque socket head, with brown glass sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, feathered brown brows, an open-closed mouth with a molded tongue, a slightly dimpled chin and cheeks, and a round chubby face. He stands at 11.5” on his original and unusual fully jointed wood and composition toddler body, and wears an antique blond human hair wig.
He wears an antique double breasted navy blue wool peacoat, with goldtone buttons with molded anchors on the face- six down the front and two at the collar, white, navy, and red stripes at the edges of the collar, and tiny functional pockets stitched into the front of the coat. Underneath, he wears an antique white cotton dickey with an embroidered blue star, and red wool trousers. On his feet he wears a pair of white rayon socks and antique white oilcloth shoes with silvertone buckles. On his head is a white and blue cotton W.A.C. hat with a goldtone eagle insignia on the front- perhaps it was a gift from his mother or sister? Pulling together the costume, he carries an American flag. What a little cherub!
MARKS: Germany / K & H [in box] / 160 – 1 [incised, back of head]
CONDITION: Generally excellent. The bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, or restoration, and is molded and painted well into a cute toddler character face. His brown glass eyes sleep well and are aligned well in the head. His original body retains much of its shiny finish, with some minor and expected age wear. The costume is in excellent condition, with very little damage or wear. Overall, this is an adorable doll!
*Please note that the price shown for this doll was calculated by factoring in the doll’s condition carefully. The doll’s condition is described fully in the "Condition" paragraph above. Any damage or flaws are carefully evaluated as to the manner in which they may reduce the retail value of this item. Unless there is some major issue we overlooked in the condition report, we decline to entertain any proposals for price reductions due to a less than perfect condition report. Most dolls that are over 100 years old will have encountered issues over the years and perfection is rare when it comes to antiques.
