Gretchen is easily spotted, with her closed mouth in a pouting expression, and most often painted eyes, all upon a highly-detailed and expressive face. This K&R 114 Gretchen is an absolute darling. She is adorned in a cute blue striped ensemble, reminiscent of a sailor costume with the shape of the collar. She’s a real beauty, and is an instant classic within any doll collection, and is bound to elevate your cabinet assortment of dollies a whole class higher. She has a bisque socket head, with painted blue eyes, no eyelashes, short straight tapered brown brows, and a closed pouty mouth. She stands at 19” tall on her original fully-jointed wood and composition body, and wears a sweet blond human hair wig, styled in tight curls with bangs.
She wears an antique blue and white striped cotton ensemble of a matching jacket and skirt. The jacket has a white cotton sailor-style collar, which is much deeper cut and does form a square in the back, decorated with white scallops with dark blue embroidery along the edges, navy blue velvet ribbon, and a red bow at the front; the cuffs are white cotton with navy blue velvet ribbon, the jacket has two front patch pockets in blue and white striped cotton with navy blue velvet ribbon and white and blue embroidered scallops, white braid trim just above the bottom hem, and white and navy blue buttons up the front, stopping at the bottom of the sailor-type collar. The skirt is knife-pleated with two rows of white braid trim just above the hem. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton half slip with lace trim, and an antique white cotton one-piece undergarment with eyelet lace trim. On her feet are a pair of faded navy blue socks and modern-made black leather shoes with red lining and red silk rosettes at the toes. In her hair, she wears a red bow.
MARKS: K star R / 114 [incised, back of head]
CONDITION: Generally excellent. The bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, with top quality modeling and painting of features. The original body retains much of its original shiny finish, with minor and expected age wear. The costume is good, with only some minor and expected wear.
