This charismatic young lady will immediately command the crown in any situation. She is self-assured and completely self-reliant! Charle's Dana Gibson's unique personification of the "feminine ideal" in his charming "Gibson Girl" illustrations spanned the late 19th and early 20th centuries, offering a fresh take on feminine appeal and beauty. (See copies of original Gibson illustrations at the end of the photos I have posted). Gibson's rendering of these lovely ladies incorporated long, slender waist and necks, as well as limbs, coupled with a modest bosom and full hips; these combined to make a refined female figure. The Gibson girl was stylish and respectable, beautiful yet reserved, and a perfect example of the emerging lady of the dawn of the 20th century. A fine and statuesque version of the modern suffragette of her day!
It was no surprise, then, when the German firm, Kestner, the so-called "King of Dollmakers," chose to immortalize even further this iconic character into their very own bisque-headed doll. Originally manufactured with design input from Charles Dana Gibson himself, these dolls have been treasured by collectors for years. Their smooth bisque heads are expertly-modeled with long, slender necks, with pointed and angular features, and set atop top-quality kidskin bodies with bisque lower arms, topped off with pompadour-styled wigs. Considered by their creator to be the "standard" for feminine beauty, the Gibson girl could now be found in dolls shops, adorned in beautiful, stylish costumes and dresses, soon to be found within the collection cabinets and within the arms of eager young girls offering them a role model in miniature form.
This particular Gibson Girl, by Kestner, is a truly stunning, and quintessential example. A slender bisque shoulder head is tilted up slightly, with crisp facial features, and gorgeous original blue glass sleep eyes. Her original kidskin body is near-mint, with the original chest stamp still partially visible, with bisque lower arms, and composition lower legs. She wears an antique human hair wig in the typical upswept style so popular in her day and adorned with chic, French faux feathers and cloth flowers. The antique costume consists of a crimson silk skirt and a white cotton lace blouse with insertion lace. An olive velvet shawl, a lovely Victorian rolled gold brooch with faux ruby at her lace collar. A full compliment of antique cotton undergarments are also worn as well as a pair of antique rayon knit stockings and a modern pair of brown leather lace-up boots. This Gibson Girl is a museum-quality example in an appropriate period costume and in wonderful antique condition.

CONDITION: Exquisite! This girl is in amazing condition; the bisque head is free of hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration. Beautiful and careful facial modeling and painting of features. Glass eyes are sparkling and sit well in the head, and sleep well. The eyelid wax is worn. The kidskin body is in very good condition with minor soiling to the upper torso and tight, intact stitching throughout. The joints are sturdy and snug, potentially allowing for posing; just be careful to not injure this lovely girl! The costume does have some wear; the silk skirt does indeed have some hidden melting in the creases, but it is not at all noticeable unless you go looking for it. The is in fine condition as are the rest of her garments and shoes. Overall, this is a beautiful lady, and one that every serious doll collection must include!
