She has a bisque shoulder head, with painted and molded features: red-brown glass paperweight eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, arched feathered brown brows, an open mouth with four upper teeth, and a dimpled chin. She stands at 19” tall on an antique kidskin body with bisque lower arms, and gusseted hips, knees, and elbows. She wears an antique human hair wig, braided and tied back in a low bun, with bangs.
She wears a matching blouse and skirt set, in black antique silk with a woven-in copper snake-like squiggle pattern. The blouse is decorated with antique lace, which was once likely metallic gold, at the sleeves, waist, and collar, with pin-tucks to define the narrow waist. The skirt is longer in the back, to accommodate a bustle or be worn as a train. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton full slip with scalloping and embroidered dots along the collar and sleeves, and a pair of antique white cotton pantaloons with tucks at the tops of the legs; both items are hemmed with antique hand-crocheted lace. On her feet are a pair of white rayon socks with a pink and blue band and black oilcloth shoes with metal buckles, and on her head is a black felt hat, with deep purple edging, a maroon feather, and a pink velvet flower.
MARKS: 309 8 [back of head plate, incised]
CONDITION: The bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, with top quality modeling and painting of features. One bisque hand is missing a thumb, and has a large flake on one of the fingers. The brown glass eyes are aligned straight in the head; the eyes appear very red in color. The kidskin body has several patches, mainly on the legs, and significant wear to the kidskin upper arms. The right arm has a brown string tied around it, and is significantly longer than the left arm. The rest of the body has expected age-related wear and discoloration. The costume is in great condition, with wear expected of antique silk, mainly to the blouse which has been patched several times over the years, and has a few minor tears that have not been patched. The metallic lace has tarnished, and is no longer shiny. Overall, she’s a beautiful doll, having held up very well over the years.
