One of the cornerstones of any great doll collection must include a version of the famous Daisy doll by Kestner or Handwerck. Daisy is a doll that was awarded to young girls as a premium for selling 3 subscriptions and paying $4.50 to the Ladies Home Journal in 1911. There were a total of 26,000 dolls made. The original order was for 5,000 dolls to be made by the JD Kestner doll company in Germany. This doll was a Kestner 171 head with a composition body. Other Daisies were produced by Simon & Halbig for Heinrich Handwerck. This is the more desirable Kestner “Daisy.” And, bonus, she is all original (except wig) and barely played with! We are also showing the original advertisement for the Daisy doll from 1911. If you purchase this Daisy, you will get a copy of the original ad with her.

This lovely and rare Daisy has a bisque socket head with blue sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, molded and feathered brows, and an open mouth with four upper teeth. She stands at 18” on her original fully jointed wood and composition body, and wears a new blond mohair wig in a short, curly style.
She is dressed in her original lovely antique white cotton dress with two lappets hanging down from the shoulders, tucked into a pale coral-pink sash at the waist. The collar, sleeves, lappets, and hem are trimmed in lace, with insertion lace above the hem of the skirt. Underneath, she wears a matching antique white cotton underwear set, of a full slip and onesie, both with lace trim. On her feet are a pair of antique white knit socks and antique black oilcloth shoes. A large coral-pink bow sits atop her head. A stunning antique presentation!
MARKS: C ½ made in 7 ½ / Germany / 171
CONDITION: Excellent. She has fine quality bisque with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or restoration, but does have a faint firing line at the back of the head. The bisque features expert decoration of features, expressive and crisp modeling of her lovely face, and subtle coloring. The original body is in excellent original finish condition with original hands, with some minor and expected age wear. A rare example of this very desirable and lovely doll! What makes her a true Daisy is her 18” size. The Daisy is very hard to come by these days as many collectors are scooping them off the market as soon as they appear! Don't let this pretty girl become the one that got away!
