The France-based porcelain factory of Lanternier Limoges, founded in 1855 in Limoges France, extended into the high-demand of the doll market in the early 1900s. Bisque-head child and lady dolls were their specialty, as they brought unique faces and molds to characterize these lively characters. This particular girl stands at 21.5 inches tall, with a bisque head, brown glass eyes, and a fabulous fully jointed wood and composition body. She's adorned in a cute costume that just makes her pop, in a very well made lacy white and pale pink dress, made of antique fabrics, all accented by a bright ginger red wig in soft mohair curls. When it comes to expanding your collection into French dolls, the Lanternier Limoges “Favorite” is always a fabulous choice -- this girl is a pristine example, offering precisely what you desire! Make her yours today!
She has a bisque socket head, with brown glass set eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, brown feathered brows, pierced ears, and an open mouth with four square teeth, distinctive red lips, and a slightly dimpled chin. She stands at 21.5” tall on a fully jointed wood and composition body, and wears a curly ginger red mohair wig.
She wears a white lace dress made from antique fabrics with a scalloped hem, ruffles at the collar and shoulders, cuffed sleeves, and white ruffles down the bodice and along the skirt. The dress also features an attached pale pink underdress and white ties at the waist and collar. Underneath, she wears a white cotton half slip with inset lace and lace trim, and a white cotton undershirt and pantaloons one-piece, with eyelet lace at the waist and hems. On her feet are a pair of white crochet socks and white leather shoes with cream colored ties and rosettes. The ensemble is completed with a white cotton bonnet with lace trim and a pink silk flower.
MARKS: DEPOSE / FABRICATION FRANCAISE [in box] / FAVORITE / NO. 6 / Ed Tasson / AL & Cie / LIMOGES [incised, back of head]
CONDITION: Generally excellent. The bisque head is free of hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, and has nice quality bisque (slightly grainy, as is typical for this model) with expert painting of features, very crisp modeling, pleasant color, lovely large eyes and a sweet expression. Her eyes are aligned nicely in the head, with a sparkling presentation. The hands have been repainted over flaking, and the rest of the wood and composition body has some areas of touch ups. The costume is great, and presents well, and is in very good condition. Overall, this girl is truly exceptional!
