She has a bisque socket head, with painted and molded features: brown glass sleep eyes, feathered brown brows, painted upper and lower lashes, an open mouth with four upper teeth, dimpled chin. She is on an antique wood and composition body, fully-jointed, with the original finish, and the red Excelsior stamp on the back. She wears a fluffy brown mohair wig in a short curly style.
She wears a modern-made pink frock, with a pointed mauve collar and a mauve bib panel with tiny white buttons and cream piping on the placket, both trimmed with cream lace, cream lace overlay on the sleeves, and a pleated mauve sash tied in a bow in the front, with pink lappets extending down over the skirt. The skirt has two tiers of cream lace from the waist, over a pleated mauve skirt. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton full slip, with Broderie Anglaise on the bodice and as a flounce on the skirt, and a pair of white cotton pantaloons with lace trim. On her feet are a pair of white knit socks with a diamond net pattern and antique cream-colored oilcloth shoes. On her head is a lavender silk bow.
MARKS: I / Made in Germany / 13 [back of head, incised]
Excelsior / D.R.P. No 70685 / Germany / 3 [back of torso, red stamp]
CONDITION: Her bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, with top-quality modeling and painting of features. The brown glass sleep eyes have good pupil alignment, while the painting and detailing to the bisque is crisp and colorful. The stamped body has two right thighs- both are matching, properly sized Kestner thighs, but both are molded as right thighs. The body also has some minor areas of wear to the finish, such as on the fingertips and joints. The costume is great and presents well!
*Please note that the price shown for this doll was calculated by factoring in the doll’s condition carefully. The doll’s condition is described fully in the "Condition" paragraph above. Any damage or flaws are carefully evaluated as to the manner in which they may reduce the retail value of this item. Unless there is some major issue we overlooked in the condition report, we decline to entertain any proposals for price reductions due to a less than perfect condition report. Most dolls that are over 100 years old will have encountered issues over the years and perfection is rare when it comes to antiques.
