For the collector of classic early dolls, this very lovely wax girl, attributed to Joseph Evans & Sons, active from 1868 to 1881, is just the ticket. With the most soulful blue glass inset eyes, wax limbs, a delicate pout to her expression and all of that blond hair inserted in the wax including the eyebrows, hand inset, bit by bit, this is an exemplary early girl for your consideration. Something that I really love about wax dolls is the perfect way that the lids fold around the eyes- they are more lifelike in that way than any other type of antique doll in my humble opinion. And this lovely little girl has perfect eyes in that sense- it feels like she is about to look up at you!

This wax girl has a poured solid wax shoulder head with inset blue glass eyes, with blond inset mohair brows and a pouty closed mouth. The molding of the features is truly wonderful. She has inset hair, typical of the English style dolls, in pale blond mohair, in a straight shoulder length style. She stands at 13” tall on a cloth body with poured wax arms and legs and the original stamp on her thigh.
She wears a vintage white cotton gown, with lace trim at the sleeves and a large collar with whitework embroidery and scalloped edges. Underneath, she wears an antique white cotton half slip with lace trim, and a pair of antique white cotton pantaloons, also with lace trim. On her feet, she wears a pair of white knit socks, and on her head is her original antique white cotton bonnet with a lace brim and lavender silk ties.
Marks: [stamped, back of left leg; very difficult to read, likely a Joseph Evans & Sons of London stamp]
Condition: Very good. The wax head is in excellent condition, free of any cracks, repairs or touch ups with great modeling, with only some very minor surface scratches and typical loss of lip color -- in amazing condition for a wax head. Her wax arms and legs are very good, also with some extremely minor superficial scratches. The cloth body is in wonderful condition, with some age-related wear. Her hair is intact, with no bald patches, and the inset eyebrows are also intact. The costume is in excellent condition, with minor age-related wear. Just a delight!
