The first doll is an adorable petite doll by Heinrich Handwerck, and has a bisque socket head manufactured by Simon & Halbig in the irresistible child-like 1079 style. She has blue glass sleep eyes, with painted upper and lower lashes, tapered brown brows, and an open mouth with four upper teeth. She wears a soft blond mohair wig, styled in tight curls with bangs. She stands at 8.25” on a five-piece wood and composition flapper body, with molded shoes.
She wears an antique red wool dress, with brass buttons down the right side, red featherstitching along the hem, and gathering at the sleeves and collar. Underneath, she wears white cotton pantaloons with red polka dots. On her head is a sweet red bow. Her molded feet have painted white socks and brown shoes.
MARKS: 1079 / Handwerck Halbig / S & H / Germany
CONDITION: Good! Her bisque head has a firing line on the back (see photo), but is free of cracks, chips, or restoration, featuring top-quality modeling and painting of features. Her glass sleep eyes are aligned nicely, and sleep well. Her five-piece body has good painting and varnish. The tip of her right foot is chipped. The costume is good, with only minor age wear, which is expected. Overall, she’s a great little doll!
The second doll has a bisque socket head, with painted and molded features in the classic Armand Marseilles 1894 model. She has big brown glass sleep eyes, with painted upper and lower lashes and tapered brown brows, and an open mouth with four upper teeth. She wears a soft light brown mohair wig in a curly style. She stands at 8” tall on a fully jointed wood and composition body. Fully jointed bodies on small dolls such as this are rare to find and highly desirable!
She wears a darling antique green velvet dress with an off-white lace collar trim. Underneath, she wears a white cotton full slip, and combined white cotton pantaloons and chemise, trimmed with lace and pink ribbon. In her hair, she wears a pale pink silk bow. On her feet, she wears vintage beige flocked shoes.
MARKS: 1894 / AM 10/0 DEP / Germany
CONDITION: Generally excellent. Her bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, and has a couple pepper spots on the face. The eyes sleep well, with good alignment, though the paint on the eyelids has worn off. The molded and painted features are nice and precise, for an overall cute doll face. This mold was commonly made for the French trade. The body shows some age-related wear but has the original finish and is well strung. The costume is good, with only minor and typical wear. Overall, this is another great little doll. Together they make the best of friends!
*Please note that the price shown for these dolls was calculated by factoring in the dolls’ condition carefully. The dolls’ condition is described fully in the "Condition" paragraph above. Any damage or flaws are carefully evaluated as to the manner in which they may reduce the retail value of this item. Unless there is some major issue we overlooked in the condition report, we decline to entertain any proposals for price reductions due to a less than perfect condition report. Most dolls that are over 100 years old will have encountered issues over the years and perfection is rare when it comes to antiques.
