Chunky-faced and overflowing with joy, this exceptional "Toto" is smiling her way into your collection! The France-based porcelain factory of Lanternier/Limoges, founded in 1855 in Limoges France, extended into the high-demand of the doll market in the early 1900s. Bisque-head child and lady dolls were their specialty, as they brought unique faces and molds to characterize these lively characters. The Toto is an instantly-recognizable sweetheart, with deeply-molded dimples, and a plump face that simply cannot be missed. This particular child girl stands at 14.5” tall, with that exceptional character face, and all on a beautiful working walking body! Just give the little windup key a few turns, and watch her go! She’s adorned in a cute costume, and even comes with her original antique short blond wig! She’s in great overall condition, so you can buy her with confidence!

She has a bisque socket head, with bright blue paperweight eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, feathered flyaway brows, and a molded open-closed mouth, with two upper teeth. Her bisque head bears the unique “Toto” face mold, with those deep dimples. She has pierced ears, and wears a bright ginger mohair wig in a short, curly style. She stands at 14.5” tall, on an antique wood & composition windup walker body, with jointed arms, and straight legs.
She wears a white cotton long-sleeved dress, and a red and cream plaid apron, while underneath goes a white cotton antique full slip, lace socks, and cream suede shoes.
MARKS: DEPOSE TOTO N5 [illegible] ALEC LIMOGES [back of head, incised]
CONDITION: Her bisque head is wonderful, free of any hairlines, or any cracks, chips, or restoration. The paperweight eyes are good and bright, and are aligned nicely in the head. The antique wood and composition body is mostly good, with high-quality original finish, and the walker windup mechanism works well; just be sure to not overwind it! Three turns is a safe number. She does have some minor and typical wear; there’s some flaking to the surface paint here and there, particularly to the joints and the hands. The left foot appears to have been touched up.. The costume has held up well over the years, with only minor and typical wear.
