17” KAMMER & REINHARDT 114 “GRETCHEN”CHARACTER CHILD ANTIQUE DOLL
Awe….What could possibly have made this darling little girl so sad? She looks like she is about to shed a tear and she’s trying awfully hard to control her tender feelings. Perhaps Papa has not come home tonight, or Mama has forgotten to pick her up from school. Whatever it is, this precious little cherub could benefit greatly from a loving hug. Will it be you who stems her tears and tucks her into bed? Whoever her new parent is, she will feel safe and warm in her new home.
Will you be the one who cherishes her dearly and keeps her lovely original Sunday dress crisp and clean and her sweet ash blond original locks well groomed? This little girl will be loved and cared-for by all of your doll family. If you don’t own a K & R 114 Gretchen yet, this is a choice example of one of the most coveted character children produced by this prolific firm at the early part of the last century—circa 1910. Just fill out the purchase order, and she is yours!

She has a bisque socket head on a fully jointed composition and wood Kammer & Reinhardt original doll body. Blue molded and painted eyes with molded and tapered brows, closed "pouty" mouth with shaded lips and darker center line, dimpled chin, original blond mohair wig. Dressed in a sweet antique blue striped cotton dress with a white “Alice in Wonderland” style antique white cotton pinafore, antique full slip with tucks and lace with matching pantaloons, white socks and nice quality antique white leather shoes with snaps. There is a blue band on her head with a pretty silk bow set to the side. A stunning presentation, she was dressed to emulate Alice in Wonderland.
MARKS: K & R
CONDITION: Excellent. Fine quality lovely bisque head with expert painting of features, pleasant color, wonderful modeling of fabulous character face with that definitive "pouty" expression that most antique doll connoisseurs admire. Some typical wig pulls under the wig at the back and sides of the head. The original body in good original finish condition but also showing wear and crazing of the painted surface. These issues are to be expected with a doll of over 100 years old. Wow! I'm having trouble parting with this fantastic doll--but I know she'll find a loving home. She is in my favorite cabinet size, donning an adorable antique costume and has the sweetest sad face!
