This outstanding early bebe from the early 1885 period is an extraordinary example of the dolls of the Rabery & Delphieu French Firm. Known as a small manufacturer of bebes 'nus, parlants, et habilles' (nude, talking, and costumed) the Rabery & Delphieu firm had quality control down to an art. They produced a far smaller number of bebes than the more massive French firms, such as Jumeau, Gualtier, and Steiner, but their product was considered some of the finest and 'most life like' of any French bebes, to little girls at the time of their creation. They predate the character doll movement by about 30 years, but their dolls often seem to represent a more "character" expression than the French dollies of the day. This little angel is no exception!
For the collector who wants something that few others will be lucky enough to find, this open mouth RD in this super gorgeous all original French bebe from this sought after period is an outstanding example of RD's best quality. Beautiful, memorable, and absolutely dreamy, this little lady is in an antique costume that was most likely made specifically for her along with her original and wonderful curly mohair wig... Not that any of that matters when you see a real close up of that face! Made to compete, at this time, especially with the 'Block Letter' Gaultier bebes, this little lovely stands her ground as an entrancing, charismatic example of the best that the Rabery & Delphieu firm ever produced.
