Wax-over-paper mache dolls holds a special class of their own in doll history, representing some of the earlier models of dolls. This particular lady stands at 21.5” tall, with a fine wax over paper mache shoulder head, with refined mature features, and original paperweight eyes. She bears her original human hair wig, and stands on her original cloth Goldschmidt body, with distinctive corset torso, and original leather boots. She is adorned in her all-original costume, complete with underwear and a fine silk gown. She’s in great overall condition! She would make a wonderful addition to any collection.

She wears her original goldenrod straw bonnet, with pale pink ribbons, a fine original silk gown with flower details, antique white cotton half slip, with lace trim, and a matching pair of pantaloons.
CONDITION: Generally excellent. The wax over paper mache head does have some minor to moderate wear, although it is not to be unexpected, as these types of dolls are generally some of the older dolls available, and have thus sustained much wear over the many years. Wax is also a rather delicate material; she does appear to have areas of moderate touchup to the face and most of her features: the brows, nose, lips, and cheeks, all seem to have some level touchup. Structurally, the wax over paper mache has held up beautifully, and is well intact. The eyes are good, and set well. The cloth body is good, with only some typical discoloration and browning. As for the costume, the original silk dress is very delicate, and bears moderate expected wear, with some fraying and melting of the silk, as well as some reinforcement and repair. Please do be delicate if you undress this girl, as her dress is rather frail. The wig is soft and supple, with a nice brown color, and is affixed to the head. Overall, this girl is in particularly-good condition for a doll of her make and age, as wax dolls in original costumes tend to suffer much over the years. Please look at the photos closely when inspecting the doll’s condition, as these types of dolls generally suffer quite a bit of wear over the years!
*Please note that the price shown for this doll was calculated by factoring in the doll’s condition carefully. The doll’s condition is described fully in the "Condition" paragraph above. Any damage or flaws are carefully evaluated as to the manner in which they may reduce the retail value of this item. Unless there is some major issue we overlooked in the condition report, we decline to entertain any proposals for price reductions due to a less than perfect condition report. Most dolls that are over 100 years old will have encountered issues over the years and perfection is rare when it comes to antiques.
