She has a bisque socket head, with painted and molded features: brown glass sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, feathered dark blond molded brows, and an open mouth with four upper teeth. She has pierced ears. She has an overall pale complexion, with selectively-blushed features. She is on her original antique wood & composition body, fully-jointed, standing at 18” tall. She wears a blond mohair wig in a short, curly style.
She wears a cream cotton organdy antique bonnet, along with a forest green dress with yellow detailed trim, while underneath goes an antique white cotton half slip with bountiful flowery lace trim, and a pair of white lace-trimmed pantaloons, white cotton ribbed socks, and a beautiful pair of antique oilcloth shoes with short heels.
MARKS: Germany HEINRICH HANDWERCK SIMON & HALBIG 1 [back of head, incised] Heinrich Handwerck Germany [back of torso, red stamp]
CONDITION: Excellent. The bisque head is free of any hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration, with top-quality modeling and painting of features. There is a small flake to the upper left eyelid, although this is not too noticeable. She has her original glass sleep eyes, which sleep well. The left eye is very slightly out of alignment with the right, but overall it’s not very noticeable. The original wood & composition body is excellent, with the original varnish/finish, with good tight stringing. The red stamp is clear and visible on the back of the body -- a desirable feature. The hands and feet are good. Overall, the body bears only the most minor and miniscule of age wear, with only some minor surface flaking at some of the joints (even so, this body is one of the best examples we have seen, with a great overall presentation). The wig is soft and supple, a top-quality example of a mohair wig. The costume is good, with only minor and typical age wear, here and there. Overall, this is a wonderful doll!
*Please note that the price shown for this doll was calculated by factoring in the doll’s condition carefully. The doll’s condition is described fully in the "Condition" paragraph above. Any damage or flaws are carefully evaluated as to the manner in which they may reduce the retail value of this item. Unless there is some major issue we overlooked in the condition report, we decline to entertain any proposals for price reductions due to a less than perfect condition report. Most dolls that are over 100 years old will have encountered issues over the years and perfection is rare when it comes to antiques.
