12.5" China Doll with Golden Snood circa 1860 The Dainty Daisy Lady in Fabulous Enfantine Dress
I call her The Dainty Daisy Lady! By far one of my favorite chinas that I am de-accessioning from my personal collection, this amazing young lady is just outstanding. No collection of early dolls can be complete without a a fine quality early china doll, and if you must have one, this would be a superb choice! Delicate pursed lips, stunning pale blue eyes, inky black hair in nearly mint condition with gold side ribbons and a neatly molded in diamond latticework snood at the back to collect her luxurious midnight black locks. She is on her wonderful antique cloth body with bisque limbs and an enthusiastic previous owner has endowed her with an ample bosom.
But her most outstanding feature is the wonderful antique dress she wears all hand crafted and painstakingly hand embroidered with white and black floating daisies, black scalloped edging and openwork designs outlining the scallops at the open collar, the cuff and the hem. Just a truly striking presentation. Dare I say that the dress is probably more valuable than the doll? This doll is a museum quality example. Her excellent condition and that wonderful face serve to set her apart as a once-in-a-lifetime example that will simply steal the spotlight in any display despite her diminutive size.
*She is available on layaway, too! Take up to five months to pay for her. Give us a call at 718.859.0901 to discuss layaway or just let us know at checkout that you need time to pay.*
She has a wonderful china head on her antique cloth muslin body with bisque arms and legs having molded and painted long white ribbed stockings and black boots. She has lovely blue painted eyes, sculpted lids (upper and lower) black tapered brows, blue eyes, red lips and outstanding signature hairstyle with snood tied at the sides with gold molded ribbon bows. Her head has expert sculpting and painting and is in wonderful condition. The body is also in superb shape for its age as well. She is such sweet little a treasure!
Ms. Dainty Daisy is sporting a stunning antique cotton dress of her period as described above (somewhat large on her but pinned to fit). The darling dress has that fabulous open 1860's low cut collar and shorter Enfantine length which would have been appropriate for a china doll such as she. Underneath goes a pair of antique undergarments, including a half slip, and pantaloons. She will absolutely charm in this costume; we estimate that the dress alone is worth around $500.
Condition. Excellent. Free of hairlines, cracks, chips, damage or restoration. She has wonderful painting, excellent sculpting, overall fabulous condition. Excellent condition of cloth body has been most likely replaced at some point but is contemporary to the head. There is a patch on the upper leg. Overall, this incredible beauty is nothing short of extraordinary- and we are honored to have handled this slice of history. We are sure she will go quickly!
