A gorgeous lady that just exudes class and has such presence, I have never seen this super rare hairstyle before! Have you? She is singular. A museum quality example, she is free of excuses to her head and plate, but one original leg is repaired. Aside from that, she is in very good condition for her age. Her dress is a later Victorian replacement but suits her beautifully, in excellent shape, and she will command the attention of all your doll friends. This wonderful doll is a top quality china lady, fit for a "best of the best" collector.

She has perfectly painted features with large blue eyes, sweetly rendered lips, a fine aristocratic nose and wide tapered brows. Delicate pink tint of the entire plate with a lively blushing of the cheeks. And this hair! She has a crisply molded head featuring swept up sides, a double row of short puffy bangs, a double peak of rolled curls at the crest of the head. At the back is a fancy long double coil of hair in a chignon out of which flows a short, closely cropped pony tail which falls halfway down the back, joining a multitude of controlled wavy curls on either side. The entire effect is quite marvelous and makes one wonder if the sculptors of these china heads ever took liberties in designing these coifs for the china dolls! Around the crown of the face are delicately brush-stroked black strands to complete the effect. Quite a marvelous hairdo indeed!
Her Victorian ensemble is simply without compare. Have a look at all of the photos- she is just STUNNING in this costume. Starting on top with a fine charmeuse beige silk blouse with a décolleté neckline and gathered bodice flounced with lace and ribbons. The entire affair is gathered again at the slender waist with a simple self band. the full short sleeves are edged with matching lace as well. The extraordinary Victorian skirt, dating from around 1890 is simple a work of art. Following a simple A-line form, the garment is over-layed with fussy beige linen/wool fabric with horizontal thin black bands which have been ruffled and shirred by deft needlework to hug the base skirt allowing for extra ruffling at the back. The top quarter of the skirt is in black charmeuse silk, also shirred as is the wide front panel terminating at a one inch hem of the beige fabric which is now box pleated around the base of the skirt giving the effect of the bell shape. Peeking from under the hem is a fine lace edge followed by the ecru wool edge of the skirt lining. The slight wear to the folds only adds to the charm of this extraordinary skirt. Underneath goes a fine antique cream cotton slip and an antique pair of tucked pantaloons with crocheted lace edge trim.
Condition; Generally excellent overall. She is in fabulous shape for her age. Her head and plate are in fine condition except for some typical rubs to the high points on the hair. and a surface craze to the china finish on the right side of her neck. Though the cloth body is a later replacement, I believe the original limbs were kept with the newer body. The hands are in perfect condition but the left leg has had some repairs including the rebuilding of the shoe (view photos for details).
She is a doll to enjoy for the rest of your life! If you are the kind who keeps collecting items your dolls through the years, a beautiful victorian doll sized fur shrug would be something to look for for her- or a few little all bisque children to hold her veil and gown in your display! What could be better than a doll such as she that will add so much to your display- she is worthy of her own scene! LBK 12-2-17 XX0783
