As autumn falls across the land, summer's green turns to gold: wheat ripens in the fields and leaves take on their brilliant yellow hues. And over it all presides Ceres, goddess of the harvest. Though she takes a rather different form on the streets of Paris than the avenues of Rome, her sweet smile, shining blue eyes, and hair the color of ripe corn cannot be mistaken! Even her antique gown, with its printed brown calico, lace trim, and ribbon accents, is the color of the season. Mssr. Jumeau has outdone himself with this beauty, straight out of some historical fantasy! Welcome the fall to your collection under her kindly gaze.
What a face! Seeming to hold the sweet secrets of a century in her placid blue eyes, this little lady has that glowing bisque and pensive expression that we as collectors prize the most in early fashion dolls. Attributed to Jumeau, this wonderful little lady really has that je-ne-sais quoi which fashion collectors prize above costumes, condition, or presentation- not to say that she doesn't have all of those other bells and whistles, too! In her antique costume, with a beautiful expression, fabulous original body in leak free condition and the cutest little original wig with decorated hair of a daring Parisienne 'mode' she is very much ready to be slipped into the cabinet as soon as you take her out of the box. Mademoiselle is in perfect condition, free of cracks, chips, hairlines, restoration and has a most charming allure! Get her before she is gone for good.
Bisque socket head on bisque shoulder-plate with beautiful hand stitched leather body in very good condition with minor patching, ensuring that she will last another 100 years in your cabinet (see photos.) She has very lovely large tricolor blue eyes (grey, blue, teal) and the sweetest little closed mouth, delicate painting of brows, beautiful coloring, pierced ears with pop of color earrings. She is completed by her original honey blond wig that nicely finishes her color.
Her crisp ensemble consists of what I would consider to be her original ensemble that was made, probably by her first owner's mother- possibly from fabric that was in the family for a couple of decades as the dress was made in the 1870's-early 1880's, out of a wonderful printed calico cotton fabric from the 1850's. It's really wonderful! Underneath she has an antique full slip with a lace collar, a muslin halfslip, and a pair of lace trimmed modern pantaloons. She has victorian style leather boots and antique socks, her original cork pate and wig.
Condition: Excellent. She is in near pristine condition with only minor and typical agewear, and extremely minor pepper to one cheek. Perfect painting of very delightful features, beautiful overall presentation in delightful antique dress (some minor alteration made to the back of the dress.) Body is in excellent, patch and leak free condition as it has been carefully and lovingly patched. See photos for more details, this doll is just a delight! LBE-9-1-17
