So solemn, almost wistful...This wax-over-mâché girl seems to be gazing back into her storied past, across the decades. If only she could speak! Her dark eyes have such a penetrating look to them, framed by elaborately sculpted blond curls adorned with a rare molded hair bow. Her lovely whitework dress is so elegant and graceful, with insertion lace to keep her cool in the last warm days of summer. Though she remains a mute witness to the past, we can almost see it in her pensive gaze!
An exquisite early wax-over papier mache doll, this sweet little girl is just a wonderful, all original example, in excellent antique condition, that any collection would benefit from. If you have been waiting for one of these early beauties with original painting, perfect hair, in restoration-FREE condition; this precious lady will absolutely charm you. Dating from the 1870's, she is quite the young lady dressed in her crispy white cotton dress with insertion lace trim and her original antique cotton underwear. Her molded hair is what earned her the popular name “Pumpkin-Head” as the waves in the hair look like the grooves in a pumpkin as well as it’s waxy surface. She has inset glass eyes and a rare molded black bow at the back of her head. If you don’t have a Pumpkin Head yet—now is the time to act!
This wonderful girl has a wax over papier mache shoulder-head with dark glass eyes with a painted brow at the back and delicate pink blush to her cheeks. She has superb golden updo with exposed ears, six double curls around the lower back of the head, accented by a spectacular large black above the curls in the back. She has a stuffed cloth body with carved wooden hands and feet with painted high button boots. Her all original body has her original cloth covering with squeak-box in torso (no-longer squeaks.) This is a wonderful find.
She is dressed in her crispy white cotton dress with insertion lace trim and her original antique cotton underwear, all in great shape (see photos). What a beauty; we are in love!
Condition: Generally Excellent. She is in very good shape. The shoulderhead does show typical crazing of the wax and wear to the tip of the nose and lips. There is also some paint loss to the black bow in the back. The wooden limbs are in fine original paint condition and the cloth body has only two small stitched repairs at the upper thighs. Overall, she is a wonderful piece of antique doll history with many more display years in her to delight future generations of antique doll lovers! She is an amazing doll in truly wonderful shape with her gorgeous costume. LBK-9-4-17 000X50704
