Little ones can be whirlwinds of emotion, going from floods of tears to radiant joy in a second. And this spectacular Jumeau girl is no exception! Made as part of the Series Fantastique, dolls with the expressive head molds originally used in Lambert automata, she has one crying face and one smiling face, on the front and back of her head. Both are so expressive, the crying face screwed up in a wail and the smiling face beaming with sparkling blue paperweight eyes. Soft light brown mohair curls surround her face, spilling onto the collar of her lacy, original white cotton baby gown. If you prefer her as a child doll, she also comes with a frothy pink silk dress trimmed with cream lace and silk rosebuds. Her trunk contains many little treasures: a fine chapeau, a sterling silver rattle, a tiny shell compact, and even her very own tiny fur show dog. How she must have delighted some little miss- a doll with emotions, sometimes happy, other times sad! And now, she and her lovely trousseau can be yours.
One of the most outstanding dolls we have ever had, this adorably cute and rare petite fille is a very special child made by Jumeau as a treasured part of the famous Series Fantastique. An exceptional example in her all original costume, the elusive two face model was made by Jumeau during the production of his Series Fantastique with a second run produced later by SFBJ in extremely limited quantities. The two faced doll combines model numbers 203 and 211 and was produced by Jumeau himself "by order only" during his last two years of owning the Jumeau company, yet, when SFBJ purchased the firm, Jumeau himself stayed on to show the new managers how he had run his operation. During this extra year, it is said that he urged SFBJ to produce a small run of Series Fantastique dolls, even though they had not been successful during his ownership. The new company acquiesced eventually, with an extremely small run of the two faced model 211-203 (laughing and crying) mainly because it would make for good advertising. Again, these examples did not sell to parents of the day, and the run was discontinued promptly. It is suggested that only 150 of the two faced dolls remain today (combining those made under Jumeau and those made under SFBJ) which makes them incredibly scarce and desirable dolls... but still places them in a more affordable bracket than most other Series Fantastique bebes, with some dolls reaching upward of $150,000 in price! We believe this particular model to be a Jumeau period example because of the quality of the bisque and the body. Her face is simply GLOWING, with perfect creamy features, a quality control element that was not carried into the SFBJ era. WOW, what an example. We are sure that she will not be here long, so if you've been waiting for one of these rare beauties, it is time to strike while the iron is hot and grab her before someone else takes her home!

Marks: 7 (both sides of neck)
Condition: Excellent overall! The factory line between the two heads occurred during the firing and does not affect the structural integrity or the aesthetic apple of this wonderful doll (See photos). The bisque is of fine quality with expert decoration of features, talented modeling of both character faces, all original condition plus all of the extra accessories listed above. The original body with split torso for the insertion of the crier box (no longer has the pull string) is in very good, original-finish condition, and displaying hardly any wear. The antique trunk does show some age wear, but it is still beautifully functional and usable.
