Representing one of the best, most notable of the earliest character dolls, the Kammer & Reinhardt 100, or "Kaiser" baby, is a real gem to have in the collection. It is said that this baby was modeled after the likeness of Wilhelm II, Kaiser (or emperor) of Germany, who lived from 1859-1941. This K&R model 100 is one of the earliest -- purportedly the second -- character doll put out on the market, and is the first character baby made by K&R! In addition, this particular Kaiser model is on a highly-desirable body, the earliest body model for the Kaiser baby. Look at those fully-jointed arms! It is an exquisite example of the realism and uniqueness that these lifelike dolls sought to replicate. Deep wrinkles, uncommon expressions both lend themselves to making a face that carries real personality, to make it stand out from the other dolls in the collection. This particular Kaiser baby is in that great size, standing at 14.5” tall, in an adorable wool knit costume and antique lace bonnet. He even has jointed wrists, an unusual trait among baby dolls! He is just the right size to fit into your collection cabinet! Jump now at this chance to own such a defining character baby of the antique doll era.

He has a lovely bisque dome head, with a 10.5” circumference, and a wonderfully modeled expression, lending itself to a lovely character face, unique to the Kaiser baby, with realistic wrinkles. Paint-stroke hair in blond; molded and painted ice blue eyes, very light airbrushed brown brows, while his open-closed mouth is delicately modeled with blushed lips, surrounded by two cheeks, dipped in just the slightest tint of rose. He is on his original wood & composition early baby body, standing at 14.5” tall, with desirable jointed arms.
He wears a white cotton lace bonnet, with ribbon ties, and a blue wool knit jacket, with cream edging. Underneath goes a white cotton antique onesie, with a pair of yellow wool knit shorts with insertion ribbon, and a pair of blue cotton socks.
Marks: 36 K & R 100
Condition: Generally Excellent. The bisque head is free of hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration. The modeling is sweet and crisp, with a great expression that can only be found amongst the Kaiser babies. The paint is smooth and excellent. There is the tiniest bit of lightening to the tip of the nose. The body has had some touchups, particularly to the arms and hands. Still, the overall body is nice. Overall wear is to be expected. The costume is good, with no real issues, and presents very well. Overall, a great baby boy!
