Stunning, is she not? The Greiner dolls of the late 1800s by Ludwig Greiner are some of the most sought-after paper mache dolls of the antique world, offering quality, beauty, and an insight into the earliest styles of dolls in the mid-Victorian period. Those refined, lady-like expressions, with those reserved hairstyles, and tall construction make the Greiner dolls markers of quality collections across the world. This particular lady, who stands at an impressive 30" tall, is particularly-early, with her dark, alluring enamel eyes. We know how papier mache doll lovers feel about clean faces- and while she does have some wear, we guarantee that she is FREE OF ANY RETOUCH; so you can see the beauty and quality of her original finish, without the distraction of garrish touch ups. Have a friend that you trust to do your touch ups? This girl is offered at a fraction of her "original paint" value because of this, but it doesn't bother me one bit... I think she is extremely striking as is. She is in an antique costume, with a period-appropriate capelet -- this lady will make any genuine collector more than happy. I personally placed an extraordinary example of this size with glass eyes in her new home for $2000 -- the market for these these early Greiners is heating up, and it's not hard to see why. This lady is being offered on layaway plans as well so you can work out your payments in installments -- before you know it, she'll be showing up at your door!

She has a beautiful papier mache head on her original antique cloth body with leather arms. Enamel eyes with dark irises, with modeled features. Dark hair is done in the middle-part style typical of Greiners, with side curls that hide the ears. She stands at 30" tall.
She is adorned in a vintage bonnet in red, with an antique period-appropriate capelet in red, with silk inner lining and wool outer layer. She wears an antique white cotton gown, with matching antique white cotton half slip with eyelet lace trim, white cotton antique lace-trimmed full slip, and eyelet lace trim antique pantaloons. Cream cotton antique socks, and antique oilcloth burgundy shoes.
Condition: Excellent. The papier mache is clean and sturdy, with none of that major crazing that plagues many of these antique paper mache dolls. Modeling is indicative of the early styles of doll manufacturing, with a reserved and lady-like expression. She does have some wear to the nose and lips, where rubbing seems to have occurred, but this is usually the case for these dolls; but this beauty does not have any touch up, so you can plainly see her condition, without worrying about what is underneath. The painting of the hair has some fading, revealing the flesh tone underneath, but this is minor, and does not detract from her beauty -- it is to be expected. The torso of the body has been recovered -- the outer layer of cloth has been done over, so the color mismatches from the original cloth of the legs. The leather arms are old replacements, but are a nice addition and look good on her. The costume is in good condition, with no excuses or issues. This big girl would be at home in any room in need of a fine 1850's child to spruce up the ambiance.
