Heads up! All the girls in your collection will be fanning themselves as he walks by, trying their best not to blush, while the boys will begging him for his fashion secrets. When a huge Kestner 196 boy, standing at 30.5" tall, is dressed up to impress, there is nothing he can't do! Boys like this are a staple of any great German doll collection, and a few can be found in my larger display cases. Boys like him can demand prices of up to $1300! However, our boy here has some damage to the head, which is why he's being offered at a much more affordable price. For those collectors who don't mind a little damage, and are more interested in the type of doll and their presentation, this 196 is JUST for you! Snatch him up now. He won't be here for long, as boy dolls disappear from my shop almost as soon as I can put them up!
***Yes, he is available on layaways! Call us up at 718-859-0901 for possible payment plan details, or for a personalized description of her beauty!***
Bisque socket head, with pale finish. Painted and molded features: open mouth with four upper teeth, glass blue sleep eyes, painted lower lashes, fur brows. Wears a nice blond mohair wig in a short style. Stands at 30.5" tall, on the original wood and composition child body with the faded GERMANY red stamp on the back. Fully pose-able, with original finish.
He wears a great boy's costume, with nice presentation. A black velvet beret cap sits atop his head, while he wears a nice two-piece black suit with pinstripes, with jacket and trousers. The trousers are pinned closed, with button fasteners on the legs. Underneath, he wears a nice white cotton shirt with a rounded collar, and a red velvet ribbon tie. White cotton antique pantaloons are his undergarments, with white and red wool long socks, and black faux leather shoes with ties.
Marks: made in M Germany 16 196 [back of head]
GERMANY 6 1/2 [back of torso, slightly faded]
Condition: One looped crack to the back of the head/left side of the head. There is a nearby hairline to the back of the head, which is much less noticeable. There is a chip to the upper left eyebrow. This damage is unfortunate, but the boy handles it proudly and without a care in the world! If you are looking for a perfect doll, this boy might not be for you, but if you are simply smitten by his presentation, and simply don't mind damage (as many collectors, as myself, don't), then snatch him up! The eyes are attractive and inviting, and they sleep well. The painting and modeling of the face is very nice, giving off a nice boyish complexion. The body is great too, with its pink original finish, and good stringing, so he can pose pretty well. The original back stamp on the torso is present, which is always great for Kestners. The costume is lovely, offering nice presentation that is just so important for boy dolls. The wig is good and intact, and soft to the touch. Overall, while this boy has some issues, he needs some love!
