A small smile plays about her lips as she looks up to great her new mamma or papa. "Bonjour," she demurely says, before returning her attention to getting dressed for the day's events. Your heart melts as you look at her, you know that you simply cannot leave her be; for it is time to play with your new favorite treasure... One of the sweetest, most fanciful, and certainly rarest Enfantine poupees we've ever met, this gorgeous little lady is a special example of a coveted c.1872 Barrois poupee on an early kid over wood body with bisque arms in a delicious museum quality silk costume. The ensemble is head-to-toe original, except for the hat, and my-oh-my does she make an impression! With some of the crispest molding, most wonderful cobalt blue eyes, and long branching lashes, her particularly dramatic presentation will stun in any vignette you might wish to display her in- but she is far more than just a pretty face and a rare model. The historically significant costume she sports makes her an especially attractive example for the collector who focuses on Victorian and Belle Epoche era fashion. Mademoiselle proudly wears her original 'Lonchambon' era dress, named for the collaborator who joined the Huret company in the early 1870's and encouraged this style of costume, the fashionable successor of the classic 'Enfantine' style of the 1850's and 60's Huret dolls; it was only produced for a few precious years and very few all original examples remain. And, as most true couture costumes, the outstanding qualities don't just extend to the exterior of the ensemble- they continue as you peel back the layers. This ensemble is made even more outstanding by the addition of her original blue silk corset- made of the same exact material, with metal grommets. I have never seen a Lonchambon era corset before! This style, soon after its introduction, developed a bustle and a more stout cut to became the classic 'Bru bebe' dress, produced at length for the chunkier Bru dolls, but for those who have the Huret Book by Francois & Danielle Theimer, more information on this rare and fleeting fashion is available on pages 193-198 (a scan can be included with the purchase of this beautiful girl.) I am extremely excited to bring this rare and alluring doll to market, and I know that she will be a one-of-a-kind addition to whatever collection she joins.
