Representing one of the best, most notable of the earliest character dolls, the Kammer & Reinhardt 100, or "Kaiser" baby, is a real gem to have in the collection. It is said that this baby was modeled after the likeness of Wilhelm II, Kaiser (or emperor) of Germany, who lived from 1859-1941. This K&R model 100 is one of the earliest -- purportedly the second -- character doll put out on the market, and is the first character baby made by K&R! It is an exquisite example of the realism and uniqueness that these lifelike dolls sought to replicate. Deep wrinkles, uncommon expressions both lend themselves to making a face that carries real personality, to make it stand out from the other dolls in the collection. This particular Kaiser baby is especially desirable, with a rarer strawberry hair color -- most Kaisers come with either standard brown or blond hair, so this is a welcome departure! A nice bisque face with light blue painted eyes, and a cute antique costume. This is one baby you can't turn down!

He has a lovely bisque dome head, with a 10.5” circumference, and a wonderfully modeled expression, lending itself to a lovely character face, unique to the Kaiser baby, with realistic wrinkles. Paint-stroke hair in a rare strawberry color; molded and painted ice blue eyes, very light airbrushed brown brows, while his open-closed mouth is delicately modeled with blushed lips, surrounded by two cheeks, dipped in just the slightest tint of rose. He is on his original five-piece composition baby body, with a nice all-original finish. Stands at 15.5" tall.
He is adorned in a white cotton antique baby gown with lace trim and tiny embroidery, with a matching antique white bonnet atop the head. White cotton antique full slip goes underneath, along with an antique white cotton onesie with button closure. Dress closes with buttons, while the slip must be pinned closed.
Marks: 36 K & R 100
Condition: Generally Excellent. The bisque head is free of hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration. The modeling is sweet and crisp, with a great expression that can only be found amongst the Kaiser babies. The paint is smooth and excellent, with no pesky chips or rubs to detract. There is the tiniest bit of lightening to the tip of the nose. The body is original with its all original finish. At some point, the body was re-strung using wiring to attach the limbs, which were secured on the outside with bandages. The body is slightly loose as a result, but the condition is good. Slight expected wear to the hands. The interior bulbs of the thighs that nest into the torso sockets are missing. Overall, a sweet Kaiser baby!
