Steeped in history, this little beauty is a treasured piece of the past that any collection of rare, early dolls would greatly benefit from....An extremely sweet little, early papier mache on her all original milliner's model body with her all original costume and gorgeous dark glass eyes- this girl has so much going for her! If you especially like early presentation pieces, in her delightful little solid wood display, she is ready for your love and affection from the moment that you open the glass cabinet front and peep in at her GORGEOUS little face. Time has taken its toll on her features, as it has to most dolls from the 1850's, but in her all original enfantine style costume with those sweet little milliner's boots, she will have you delighted none the less with her rare Alice headband and beautiful presentation. I am sure she will be marked SALE PENDING soon.
Sweet wax over papier-mache shoulderhead with long sloping collar-line. Gorgeous all original painting of features as far as we can tell. Beautiful almondine eyecuts with large black glass eyes. Sweet pink lips with original paint (so rare to find) pert nose and cute modeling of features. And did you take a look at that hair? A very delightful pumpkin updo with black Alice band, rare exposed ears, in excellent condition. There is overall wear to the face, which is magnified to a much more exaggerated state in the photographs (the magnification is about 4x what she looks like in person.) For her age, we must be forgiving of such small imperfections and love her as is.
She is costumed in her all original little enfantine style costume, hand stitched onto herm comprised of many printed cottons. she has a very sweet little printed cotton skirt and a pink waist band with an adorable blouse of another roller printed cotton- hence why it held up so well! The cut is an extreme off the shoulder, all stitched entirely by hand. Underneath she has a full set of original undergarments, including one trimmed in embroidered tatting (all hand stitched), another slip of embroidered cotton in a very primitive pattern, plus a delightful chemise, and a pair of pantaloons under that. What a treasure for the collector of early 19th century dolls.
Condition: Very good condition for what she is and how old she is. Some soiling to head and face; a piece of wax and paint missing at the front of the hair, some paint loss and part of one hand she unfortunately lost- but for her presentation and delightful little face, I think we can allow her these marks of time. I am sure that one lucky collection will be home for her soon.
