This little gem of a doll is so delightful in so many ways. Let me count the ways: Firstly, she is so small, that she will be able to slip into your cabinet unnoticed. Secondly, she is reasonably priced (I have often sold these darlings for up to $1200—when I find them—but she is priced at just $950). Thirdly—when is the last time you’ve seen such an adorable authentic antique presentation? Fourthly, she will be the sensation of your next show-and-tell at your doll club meeting, or at least among your doll friends. Let me say that I could go on singing the praises of this little darling, but I bet you can come up with better reasons yourself why you should get her! But remember to act fast because Asian dolls are currently very trendy in today’s antique doll marketplace!
She has amber tinted bisque socket head on a fully jointed amber tinted composition original Sonneberg body with straight wrists. Brown fixed eyes with extremely slanted eye-cut, painted upper and lower lashes, black tapered brows, wide modeled nose, open mouth with four upper teeth, antique black natural fiber/hair wig in Japanese style hairdo. Dressed in an antique aqua beige cotton kimono with small yellow and tan stylized floral print, large oxblood silk sash, antique cream cotton underwear brown net socks, cloth flowers in her hair.
CONDITION: Excellent. The finest quality bisque with smooth and fine finish, lovely amber color, fabulous modeling of oriental face with the sweetest expression, expert and delicate painting of features. The original body in good condition with a clean original finish. What a darling little oriental doll! One of the curiosities of the German doll industry, this charming doll preceded the much talked about Character Era by at least 15 years. In 1895 to 1900, Exotic dolls were all the rage in Europe, so many German and French dollmakers like Kestner, Simon & Halbig, Bahr & Proschild and even Armand Marseille jumped on the bandwagon and made Asian, Burmese, Chinese, Black and brown dolls to satisfy the demand. This doll resembles closely to models made by Schoenau & Hoffmeister. She is truly a wonderful diminutive doll!
