Meet the most recent, and frankly, most outrageously fabulous addition to our exclusive family of demoiselles; Mademoiselle Celeste! An outstanding museum quality doll in all original, mint condition, this extraordinary poupee is guaranteed to make a statement in any doll room. One of the largest and most beautiful poupees I have ever seen (let alone handled,) Celeste is an exquisite, 37" poupee who has spent most of her life in Europe, kept in pristine condition in her all original silk couture gown, and now she is ready to make her grand entrance into her new home! Produced by the Francois Gaultier firm in the early 1880's, most certainly for exhibition as we have never seen another of this height in our many years of buying and selling antique dolls. I am certain that I will never seen another Gaultier poupee like this, however, not because of her beauty and her size, but because Mademoiselle Celeste is wearing perhaps the most exquisite couturier made gown I have ever seen. Truly a half scale couture ball gown, this amazing costume boasts panel after panel of silk on silk embroidery with rose silk trimming and lace edging, a massive cameo centerpiece and an extraordinary bonnet... No, there simply is no competition; Celeste is, as her name would imply, a seldom glimpsed vision of another time and place, preserved perfectly so that she may be passed down to future generations and treasured as the rare and radiant piece of history that she is. Celeste is offered with our platinum level gifts and guarantees because we are very confident that this incredible doll will be a crowning jewel in any collection, large or small. Get her before someone else realizes that they cannot live without her!

She has the palest bisque head with expert painting of features, delicate attention paid to lashes, brows and lips. Exquisite blushing of cheeks and mauve eye shadow, as well as perfect sculpting of ears with blushing to top. Dramatic dark eye liner and perfect branching lashes. She is on her beautiful original kid body with a few patches, and some wear overall to the hands and feet. Individually wired toes, and full gusset joints at the knees, hips and elbows. We have chosen not to undress her as she is sewn into her ball gown, and we would not want to dismantle such a masterpiece! She is wearing a custom made mohair wig in elaborate up-do with beautiful coiled spirals in a half up, half down style, and she has her original long humanhair wig with ribbons woven into her elaborate braids. How beautiful!
As you know from the photographs, this gown is beyond words. She is wearing a wonderful original embroidered silk panneled ball gown with a massive soft bustle train. High cut v-line collar that shows just a touch of decolte (Mademoiselle must, after-all, make a statement), with beautiful rose silk faille ruffle down the front that is accented with ruffled lace trim on each edge of the bodice, cloaking the corset closure of her gown. The sleeves are edged with rose faille, and a large, festive faille swag drapes across the front of the gown, culminating in the most voluptuous bow at the back of the bustle. WOW. There are tons of other little details that I could not even begin to describe here, so please have a very close look at her photographs... This is an outstanding ensemble. What an ensemble. The skirt is lined in silk, weighted and then lined again in a thin cotton. She has a silk full slip with two layers of skirts, and a pair of white cotton pantaloons. She is wearing her original cream silk slippers that have had later elements added. She carries an ostrich feather fan, and is completed with an outrageously fabulous hat. Look at that hat. Plumes, feathers, velvet, silk... Everything that a lady of such distinction could possibly want for. What a doll.
Marks: 12 (head)
Condition: Excellent. Her bisque is lovely, the modeling is wonderful, with a round face, plump lips, and beautiful fox-like blue glass spiral eyes. The body is in very good condition, with only minor soiling; there is some slight settling, but not enough to really impact her impressive height. There are two minor mold flaws to her bisque; one line on her right cheek and a dark line under her nose. These marks are not at all noticeable unless you are extremely close to her face and I don't think that they affect her value whatsoever. I have never seen another like her, I don't think we will come across a doll so extraordinary again. We are happy to answer any and all questions about her beautiful, large Mademoiselle!
