"I will only wear the very best to the soiree!" this breathtaking Demoiselle must have decreed just before acquiring her stunning all original costume. One of the most exquisite poupees I have had the pleasure of handling, this remarkable young lady is an incredible slice of history. In perfect condition, head to toe original, as if untouched by time, this vision of a doll has just stepped out of 1872 and into our arms.
If you are looking for the best of the best in the arena of Fashion Poupees, look no further; this spectacular all original Jumeau poupee is the gold standard of excellence that connoisseurs dream of. I would be doing her a disservice if I did not wax poetic just a bit on her historical importance as perhaps THE earliest poupee produced by Jumeau. Marked only with a J on the shoulderplate, and poured of a very thick pressed bisque, I believe that she was produced after Jumeau shifted away from selling Papier mache dolls, and founded their own factory in Montreuil in 1872, where they made heads like these up until the mid 1870's. At that time, the 'mode' of these dolls was the Enfantine fashion, as the influence of Huret and Rohmer was felt by the Jumeau company, and we can clearly see that in this example through the thickness of her neck and the plump of her cheeks, but she is costumed as a lady, which further marks her as a transitional model. The incredible costume on this beauty dates her to be one of the earliest poupees produced at Montreuil, exactly in 1872, as the mode Enfantine costume was no longer popular, and was replaced with the more mature body type of the classic lady doll. With every single detail just so, from her magnificent cobalt blue eyes and original wig, to her outstanding original shoes and the most magnificently painted features (have a look at those lips!) I know that she will not be here long.
~Mademoiselle is available on layaway! Take up to 10 months to pay for this outstanding doll. I know that we just won't see another like this again anytime soon, so act fast before she is swept away, as all of the others we have most recently brought to market have been. Feel free to give us a call at 718.859.0901 to discuss her impeccable condition, or to ask about layaway terms. You can also send us an email! What's more, she ships anywhere in the US for free!~
She has a bisque shoulder-head on her all original leather body with bisque hands. Beautiful modeling of the body, all hand stitched, free of any leaks or blemishes. Bisque hands are in all original, mint condition. Painting of the facial features is just a dream come true. Pert little lips, piqued nose, gentle ears, large cobalt eyes, delicately blushed cheeks and a most demur expression. She has her original fashion poupee wig.
Her ALL ORIGINAL SILK costume is just exquisite! She is wearing a stunning navy blue dinner dress with a box pleated train that is accented with cream silk and lace. There is a fully pleated panel down the front in cream lace that is covered over by the jacket top (hidden to the viewer, oddly enough), delicately embellished cuffs with aqua silk ribbon trimming and a matching bow at the early bustle in the back, and wonderful cut with an open neck that exposes the decolte. Underneath she sports a lace trimmed chemise, flared and flounced half slip, as well as a lovely pair of pantaloons, all original and in great shape. She is completed by a fabulous pair of original shoes and a brass hair comb set with paste diamonds. What more could we ask for??
Marks: J (front shoulderplate corner)
Condition: Excellent. She is in pristine condition, free of any damage or imperfection to the bisque head and hands. Her costume, unfortunately, has had some melting, but it is in structurally sound condition, and with careful conservation, she will be in excellent condition for years to come. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or with any specific photo requests, we will be happy to send them over.
