This spectacular Enfantine is the crème de la crème. If you have been waiting patiently for the rarest and the best doll you will find ANYWHERE, here she is. I have never before had a fashion poupee of this caliber; I am honored to have her in our shop at the present moment because I know that treasures such as this only come along every decade or so. Ah, to have and to hold such a doll as your own would be an unparalleled joy! We have named her Mademoiselle Sophie because the root of that name is wisdom; and we see such knowing in her perfect face. With the creamiest pale bisque we have ever seen, the most delicate, full lining of the lips and her amazing tissue thin wool dress with silk trimmings and those ever so desirable lapettes that we only see original to the gowns of the 1860's! I could not even begin to delve into the many layers of her exciting past in one simple paragraph, but I can say that there are known to be about 100 of these dolls in existence, very few of which possess original wooden bodies such as she, and even fewer with a Simonne shop stamp. All of these factors serve to indicate that this particular doll was one of the best produced by G&P for Barrois and then assembled for sale at the illustrious Maison Simonne. This is very exciting from a collecting standpoint as even the most sought after antique doll in the world, the illustrious Marque SFBJ was produced 125 times. By comparison, the extremely desirable Huret doll was made 1000's of times over as the company produced approximately 1500 dolls a year for over a decade. Simply put, this is one doll to own that you can be assured NO ONE else will have. Can you imagine being a child in the golden age of 1865 Paris, stepping into the Simonne shop under Passage Louvre, and seeing this otherworldly doll in the display? Ask the shop girl, she will take her down for you. Once she is in your hands, it is simply impossible to put her down. A jewel such as this could never be let to slip away.

Extremely early pressed bisque shoulder-head with cobalt blue glass eyes, heavily lined eyes with long branching lashes, beautiful arched brows, delicate apple blushed cheeks and the most spectacular painting of delicate closed mouth with shading that tucks up into her knowing smile. She is on her fabulous original fully articulated wooden body with carved wooden hands, individually sculpted fingers that cup inward, perfect for holding a parasol, fan, fly chaser, or other delicate accessory of her new owner's choosing. Body is in the best condition I have seen on a wooden bodied doll. Truly pristine. If you are endeavoring to create a museum quality display with your dolls, this amazing girl would make a stellar addition.
Sophie is wearing an OUTSTANDING original Enfantine dress from the 1865 period crafted out of the thinnest wool I have ever handled. With a very fine purple silk ribbon trimming in box pleats and ruffled medallions around the skirt, this day dress is very modish and perfectly fitted to her form. Of course, she sports a precious enfantine blouse underneath with the most delicate whitework with tucking down the front and back, lace trimming on either side, lace ruffle around the collar and around the cuffs, mother of pearl buttons down the back. Underneath she has an additional chemise shirt with lace around the collar and cuffs, a pair of balloon pantaloons with delicate edging, and a most wonderful half slip with lace trim; all of these elements are period appropriate to the 1860's. We must understand that with Enfantines, so much of their appeal and charm goes into the delicate curation of proper accessories, and Mlle Sophie is already in step for a spectacular closet of such little fripperies with her amazing, possibly original leather boots marked 2 on the soles with little brown pompoms and pink antique socks, along with her wonderful antique felt hat with a purple plume to match the gown and antique brown human hair wig in a long coil at the back. What an ensemble!

Condition: Excellent. Mademoiselle Sophie is in spectacular original condition, near mint, without a single excuse. Her features are skillfully painted, free of even the slightest loss of color or shift in tone, she is in beautiful shape. I have never seen another quite like her with a wooden body such as this, in excellent shape overall. Some minor loss of paint to hands, but this is to be expected of a 155 year old doll! There is nothing second rare about her. We would be happy to give an in hand description or answer any questions via email or phone, just let us know if you would like to be Mademoiselle's new caretaker!
