This beautiful lady exhibits some of the best features that made the golden age of china doll production so magical. A special model made as a portrait of one of America's most famous First Ladies, this exquisite Mary Todd Lincoln is a prime example of the civil war era dolls made in Germany for both American and international markets. She's in such a wonderful size, too -- just big enough to draw attention, but small enough to fit inside the collection cabinet. Crisp modeling, and sharply-painted features give this particular example a stunning complexion, along with a molded, gold leafed snood that holds her dark hair in a pleasant silhouette. She's on a sweet antique homemade body, and is sporting a wonderfully-made silk dress in the Civil War era ballgown silhouette. I always love this model for its historical import, but this particular example really shines with her wonderful condition and crisp painting of her lively eyes. I am sure she will find her new home soon!
*Yes, she is available on layaway. Feel free to email us or call us at 718-859-0901 for payment details, or an in-hand description of her beauty!*
She has a glazed china shoulder head, in a pale milky white and smooth glossy finish. Deeply-molded & crisp features are accented with ice blue eyes, painted black tapered brows, and a closed petite mouth with finely rendered lips. She has her dark hair held in a net snood, with original gold painting still visible on the front, framing the face. Her cloth homemade antique body stands at 15" tall. She wears a silk brown ensemble in the Civil War era style, with white lace, and green ribbon trim, and a green pin affixed to the front. It fits her well, giving her a tapered silhouette around the waist, and billowing out from the skirt. Underneath goes an organdy half slip with eyelet lace trim, and lace-trimmed antique pantaloons. Brown socks and black oilcloth boots with three eyelets each adorn her feet.
Condition: Excellent. The china head is free of hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration. Great modeling and painting of features. Minimal to no rubbing to the back of the hair; much of the golden paint to the front of the snood still remains. To the back of the plate, there are a few tiny speck marks inherent to the mold, but this is unnoticeable. The homemade body is antique, and has held up well, with only minor age wear, and no rips or tears to compromise her integrity. The costume is lovely and intact. Overall, a great doll.
