For the collector who must have something absolutely extraordinary, this gorgeous, Golden Age Gaultier poupee is a MUST HAVE example. Think of her as the Corvette of Poupees. Just look at that perfect visage! With one of the most iconic faces in Antique Dolls, I would consider this example to be the highest quality doll made using this classic mold. In a perfect 18 inch size, with beautiful carved wooden feet and hands, she has all of the deluxe features that connoisseurs look for like the Gaultier "Block" Fashion face, and a kid over wood body, with subtle coloring, bright blue eyes, original human hair wig, original boots, and a fabulous antique costume. With the sweetest little smile, gold, marquisette earrings with tiny faceted rubies and matching buttons down the front of the dress, she is an outstanding Poupee that will make even the most discerning collector extremely happy. A little bit of history on this beautiful Parisienne; an early model of the signature face of the Gaultier firm, this poupee has pressed bisque and paperweight eyes and was most probably sold to the Jumeau firm in the 1870's, before Jumeau had set up his own manufacturing firm for heads. Jumeau was however, producing bodies at this point, especially luxury bodies like this. In 1870, during the Franco Prussian War, in fact, most doll firms had to stop production of their dolls completely because the city of Paris was sieged; however, FG was able to continue production because their porcelain workshop was to the east, outside of Paris. This particular doll really stands out because of her fabulous face, but also because of her import as a prime example of this marriage of parts between companies. Along with the deluxe features of her head, she also sports one of the rarest wood bodies, a kid over wood example that was very expensive to purchase, especially with hand carved wooden hands and feet. Nearly impossible to find in this size these days, this fabulous lady will certainly be a top shelf poupee in any collection, large or small. I could not imagine a more idyllic example for the truly discerning curator of a carefully vetted collection. We are offering her with the highest level of gifts and guarantees, the Couronne Platin star, which you can read more about below.

Pressed bisque socket head with original neck button on original plate. Very pale coloring of perfect head and plate, beautiful pink lips with large blue eyes, dark brows, long branching lashes, outstanding painting of features and delicate blushing of lips. Dark liner around the eye cuts, making those very dramatic blue eyes pop. Perfect earring holes without any chips or cracks. Her fabulous kid over wood body has tongue in groove joints, perfect wooden carved lower arms and individually carved fingers with separated thump, excellent for holding parasols or brushes, perfume bottles... You name it! Feet have individually carved toes, and hips feature large buttocks that shapely fills out fine bustle outfits like the one she is sporting! The leather is worn and colored in places, but she really does exhibit the finest elements that make a poupee shine.
She is wearing a singular costume from my private collection. A spectacular antique pink cotton ensemble with a fabulous knife pleated skirt, overlay bustle and fitted jacket top with tons of lace and the most delicious brass marquisette buttons, along with a very ornamental silhouette that is simply divine! I don't know about you, but I am smitten with this costume... The delicate powdery pink of the color was so hard to capture on film, but I promise, it looks even more amazing in person- it compliments her cheeks to perfection! Underneath she is wearing a full set of undergarments including a delightful pair of hand embroidered pantaloons, an antique lace trimmed half slip, a superb, early chemise. She also has her delightful original brown heeled boots with all the buttons intact, and original socks. The outfit is completed by an incredible pink cotton and silk hat with a few plumes and beadwork to really complete mademoiselle's ensemble... Truly, this presentation is singular!
Condition: Excellent. Perfect, glowing bisque in spectacular shape, free of hairlines, cracks, chips, or restoration. Superb pale coloring with masterful execution of painting and rare, early paperweight eyes with dark outer-rim and light center around iris. She has the tiniest little pepper that is absolutely imperceptible unless you are looking for it on the nose. Precious original human hair wig. Body is in structurally excellent shape with some discoloration. One arm is a little loose, but still posable. The skirt of the dress closes with a safety pin because of her many layers of underwear, and the half slip is a bit small as well, but both fit her beautifully in scale. Some age color to the dress and a small tattering of the lace at the collar, but otherwise it is in perfect condition. A true Etoille of the Parisienne doll world! I just know that her new parent will treasure her for a lifetime.

~A Note On Our New 'Couronne' Three Tiered Rewards and Guarantee System~
Couronne, the French word for crown, has always been a term dear to my heart. I was born in Paris, French was my first language, and will always be my favorite way to talk about dolls. The circular nature and royal implication of the word 'couronne' make it an excellent adjective to describe the best of the best that we offer, here at Kathy Libraty's Antiques. As time goes on, I find it harder and harder to come across dolls of the highest and finest quality; and when I do have the pleasure of finding and subsequently offering them to my customers, expressing their growing rarity is difficult. Thus, we now have a way to do it in far fewer words than I have used in the past. Dolls of the highest excellence will now be offered in three tiers, each with an embossed tag expressing their level of merit:
~Couronne Dauphine D'Argent~ (Silver) To achieve the Dauphine level, a doll must be- shall we say, a cut above the pack. A doll at this level is exemplary, and would achieve Impériale or Royale status if not for a small flaw or two, acquired over her long life. These dolls are divine and stand out on their own. At this level, in addition to the doll purchased, the buyer receives a small gift, personalized thank you note, as well as a 5% off voucher for a future purchase.
~Couronne Royale D'Or~ (Gold) Dolls that achieve this level are rare, alluring, beautifully dressed and in very good condition. They exemplify everything that we look for in a doll and prize above others in a 100+ year old antique. At this level, our customers receive a small gift in addition to their package along with a personalized thank you note that is included with every doll we sell. A voucher for 7% off of your next purchase will be included.
~Couronne Impériale Platin~ (Platinum) The highest order of antique doll, a doll that is all original or otherwise exquisitely costumed . A doll that has an absolutely original body and without damage or compromise. With a doll at this level, we offer our customers a gift of antique doll jewelry, a luxury bonbon, personalized thank you note specifying the value and rarity of the item. Additionally, a voucher for 10% off of your next purchase from us. A receipt of your purchase for insurance purposes is also available upon request at this level, as well as in invitation to our Holiday Antique Doll High Tea at our home in and show room in Brooklyn, New York. *Insurance receipts are also available upon request for any doll at these levels.*
