A very hard to find model, we are pleased to offer this early lady in her wonderful antique costume with jaunty Victorian hat! How often do we come across molded hat examples? This is the first one I've had in a decade (I searched my files far and wide to find another!) This girl bears the sweetest expression, with a slight head tilt just begging for attention, along with a molded dark hat that sets her apart in terms of style! On her original cloth body and wooden limbs, she has seen a lot of things in her many years, but she has a very special panache about her that really makes her stand out!
Paper mache shoulder head laid over with wax finish, with molded shoulder/chest creases. Thinly-feathered brows, closed mouth with thin line and shaded lips. Pale complexion, and lightly-blushed cheeks. Inset dark glass eyes. She is on her original cloth body, with original wooden arms and legs, in a cream finish, with short heeled boots, painted black, with red trimming. She stands at 17.5" tall. She is dressed in a black cotton antique dress with cream spaced pinstripes, a white cotton antique full slip with lace trim and tucking, and a pair of white cotton antique pantaloons.
Condition: Very good, especially for a wax over paper mache; these dolls have a tendency to melt and wear over time, but this girl has held up very well over the years. Modeling is sweet and pleasant, with the eyes clean and free of cracks. Typical surface rubbing to the wax on the plate front and back, and some rubbing to the curls of the back of the head (see photos). The cloth body is great, with excellent condition and almost no age wear, other than a slight darkened color, typical of aged cloth bodies. Wooden hands and feet are good, with no missing chunks or splinters; the fingers are great and intact, carved into precise mitten-like style. Some surface flaking to the feet. Overall, a lovely girl.
