Unusual, characterized dolls are always something special at Kathy Libraty's Antiques, and this one is no different. A painted composition head is modeled into a super animated African caricature, bearing a wide grin, with a tuft of dark hair atop. Set atop a long-limbed cloth body, and trussed up in a native grass skirt costume, this doll is sure to be something different in the collection! Many attribute her to the 1930s Josephine Baker, due to her exotic dancing costume, although this doll does not bear the more elegant and attractive stylizations of most other Josephine Baker dolls.
**Please feel free to give us a call at 718-859-0901 for payment options, or to discuss this doll!**
Composition shoulder head with extremely exaggerated modeling of features, with black painted molded hair on top, and dark chocolate brown paint over bisque. Painted features, with dark eyes with indent pupils. On a brown cloth body, standing at 21" tall. Dressed in a grass skirt with faux straw anklets and bracelets, and an orange velvet sash that wraps twice around chest to form an X shape.
Condition: Generally excellent. Head is free of cracks, chips, or restoration. No big chips or flakes to the face. Cloth body is well and intact, with no tears or seam rips, and costume is good. Overall good condition, with no real excuses.
