This big and beautiful lady exhibits some of the best features that made the golden age of china doll production so magical. A special model made as a portrait of the President's wife at the time, this beautiful Mary Todd Lincoln is a prime example of the civil war era dolls made in Germany for both American and international markets. Crisp modeling, and sharply-painted features make up her pale complexion, along with a molded, gold leafed snood that holds her dark hair in a pleasant silhouette. Having a beautiful Goldsmith-type body with leather hands and boots, she is sporting a lovely 1855 style costume that begs to be displayed. Go on, and make her yours.
*Yes, she is available on layaway. Take up to 5 months to pay for this sweet lady-- feel free to email us or call us at 718-859-0901 for payment details, or an in-hand description of her beauty!*
She has a glazed china shoulder head, in a pale milky white and smooth glossy finish. Deeply-molded & crisp features are accented with ice blue eyes, painted black tapered brows, and a closed petite mouth with finely rendered lips. She has her dark hair held in a net snood, with original gold painting still visible on the front, framing the face. Her lovely, antique Goldsmith-type body stands at 26" tall, with the original leather hands and crimson boots, with stitch laces, and red striped stockings.
She wears a pale pink cotton organdy dress, with black lace and velvet ribbon, along with flower decorations to add some detail to her simple yet sublime face. Underneath she wears a full set of antique undies including a white cotton half slip with eyelet lace at the bottom, along with matching pantaloons.
Condition: Faint hairline to the back left of the plate, ending underneath the hair on the left side. This is the only damage of this nature that the china head has, with otherwise lovely modeling and painting; she does have a few speck marks here and there (see photos), but they are quite unnoticeable, and her beauty is not compromised. The golden paint for the snood is still evident on the front, framing the face and giving a nice splash of color to her pale complexion. She is on her antique Goldsmith type cloth body, with a single white patch on the breast underneath the plate, perhaps for reinforcement. Her leather arms are good, with the right arm only having an old reinforcement patch around the elbow, protecting the seam where the leather and cloth meet. Some fraying to the right hand fingertips, while the left is very good. Overall minor age wear to the cloth body. The leather boots still bear their original dark red/burgundy shade, with stitching laces up the front. For her 160 years of age, she is in excellent shape. In perfect condition, I have sold Mary Todd Lincolns of this size for $2000, so, due to a minor hairline, we are offering her at half price.
