~A special historical note on the relationship between Gaultier and Jumeau and the shared use of bodies~ In September of 1870, Paris was sieged by the Third Prussian Army, until January of 1871. As we can all imagine, this dramatically halted the production of doll heads by firms with factories within and directly around Paris, as the Parisiennes could not import the porcelain dust required to create the heads. Jumeau was in this camp; his factory was within Paris at this time and he could not produce many heads. Gaultier, however, was not. His factories were outside of the city limits, and he could continue making heads during the siege. Gaultier had always sold his heads to other companies, but, this particular event gave him a monopoly like control of the French head market for the following year. During this time, Jumeau bought Gaultier heads, and developed a relationship with the company. Boutique shops as well, such as Aux Enfants Sages, who would come later, after the Franco Prussian war, knew of this relationship, and when Jumeau had a shortage of heads, often looked to Gaultier to provide heads for Jumeau bodies. This is what happened with this sweet little Miss; we are confident that her repainted Jumeau body is perfectly original and appropriately sized for her proportions.
