Fabulous Antique Early & Rare Steiff Wool Felt Donkey on Wheels c.1900-1905
Wow, what a beautiful, rare piece we have here! We recently sold a Steiff lamb on wheels to incredible response from our customer base, and we are proud to bring to you another beauty by Steiff on early wooden wheels, in the form of a donkey on wheels. He's a really adorable model, with a leather saddle and would look great paired with a doll of appropriate size! Read on and see what this donkey can do for you, and if you are interested in the K&R 116, check my shop, or use the item number RLI-829! In perfect condition, this early donkey has sold for up to $1800, so this is a real treat!
***Feel free to call us at 718-859-0901 for layaway or payment options! Just let us know at checkout how'd you like to pay, and we will be happy to send this darling donkey on his way to you when full payment is received!*** Love both the Donkey and our doll model? What's even better is that if you love the Kammer & Reinhardt 116 boy in the photos as well, you can purchase the two together as a pair at a discounted price, free shipping. This super rare boy is item number RLI-829 in our shop, and I just think he looks so very good with our donkey friend, the two will be delighted to go to the same home together!
Wool felt surface with firm interior stuffing to allow for a sturdy, sculpted figure. On wooden and metal wheel frame, with black button eyes. Hard to find original brown leather saddle with attachment straps and a red felt layer underneath. Most have lost these important accessories! Black yarn hair and duster tail intact. Measurements: The height from bottom to top of head is 10", while bottom to back is 8". Length from tail to tip of nose is ~13". Wheel frame width is 5.5".
CONDITION: Generally excellent for his age, he is in structurally excellent condition. The top of his head has some patchwork repair, and his ears are replaced- please take a look at the photos, there is wear to the head, and the patch extends under the neck. Some of the leather straps missing. Otherwise, general and typical antique age wear, as to be expected. Personally, I love the patch; it gives him a certain kind of charm, much like Eyeore from Winnie The Pooh with the visible stitching! He's real cute, for sure, and is guaranteed to look great next to a doll of choice!
