With perhaps the sweetest face of any 116a I have ever seen, this girl is just the best. One of the most highly coveted babies in the antique doll world, this beautiful little example is a true GEM for someone who has always wanted one of these hard to find Kammer & Reinahrdt 116as. What is so special about her? We can start with those gorgeous original blue sleep eyes, delightful expression, outstanding modeling of the open-closed mouth... but my favorite feature? Her spectacular presentation baby dress. Featuring 37 rows of tight tucking with a very flashy yet delicate interlocking box design, with a broderie anglaise ruffle, this dress is a grade A piece of Victorian textile and costume history. She is museum quality. If you are waiting for a very special baby to go in a cradle, carriage or the lap of a larger doll, this beauty would be a special addition to your collection.
**This beautiful little one is available on our 5 month layaway plan. Message us, or call at 718-859-091, to hear an in hand description. And she ships for free in the US!**
She has a lovely bisque socket head, with a 10.5” circumference, and a wonderfully modeled expression, lending itself to a lovely character face. Blue glass sleep eyes are framed by painted upper & lower lashes, feathered brown brows, while her open-closed mouth has two upper molded teeth, surrounded by two cheeks, dipped in just the slightest tint of rose, along with an adorably wrinkled chin. She is on her original composition bent limb baby body in the cryer design (cryer still works), standing at 15.5" tall. She wears a lovely antique blond human hair wig, perhaps original, it's a bit big but it looks so lovely on her.
She wears a spectacular, full antique baby costume that really sets her presentation apart: a white cotton baby gown with tucking and broderie anglaise trim, and functional buttons; a white cotton full slip with lace trim; a white cotton lace trimmed bonnet, white cotton onesie, and knit aqua booties. If you've been waiting to get a really special character baby, this example will absolutely charm. Please note; the brown wig in the undergarment photos does not come with her.
Marks: K&R SIMON & HALBIG 116/A 36
Condition: V-shaped hairline at back of head, near the top -- see photos. It is a short hairline, and is easily hidden by the wig. My team would be happy to bleach this hairline and reinforce it with plaster before shipping to ensure that it does not move during shipping upon request of the buyer. There is a small firing flaw just behind the left side of the face, by the ear; its a slightly darkened crooked line that must have been caused by a hair or some such object falling into the mold during the production of the bisque head. It is not a hairline or a crack. The fabulous face is clear of any such damage, and otherwise the head is free of cracks, chips, or restoration. The modeling is excellent. The body is original with its fabulous original finish, and is mostly excellent, with only a moderate touch up to the left toes, and a crack along the right toes. The cryer still works. Years ago, I sold a similar 14" example for $2700, in perfect condition, so for less than 1/3 of the price, this wonderful, larger doll will charm even the most discerning customer. This is an extraordinary opportunity doll for someone who really wants a special baby!
