An incredible accessory for the favored bebe in your life, this beautiful capelet was in storage with many of my Victorian textiles for years, and we just rediscovered it during our summer cleaning- in immaculately wonderful condition! Almost every other cape of this caliber that I have seen has decayed or been consumed irreparably by moths in its many years of existence- but not this gem. In rich, supple condition, with only a handful of moth holes this exquisite piece of antique doll history will charm and delight even the most discerning bebe. Can't you just see it? Deliciously draped across the shoulders of your favorite bebe, china doll or papier mache? This beauty is at a wonderful cross-section of time when it might have been worn by any of those types of dolls, so it allows for incredible historical accuracy and versatility in which doll you decide to put it on. Elements of the cape include silk lined draw-string hood gathered at collar with completely intact ties (almost always lost to time), exquisite floral embroidery at the back bottom, rich ecru silk bows at the top and at the back of the collar. We will never find another quite like this, I am quite sure of it.
~Yes, we are offering this incredible cape on layaway! Take up to three months to pay for it. Give us a call anytime at 718.859.0901 to hear an in hand description of this lovely cape's condition or to discuss layaway options.~
Collar to tip of hem: 28" (perfectly trained!) Collar to top of hood: 9.5" Shoulder to shoulder: (aprox) 7-9"
Condition: Excellent for its age. There are scattered moth holes that are very minor- most do not even go all the way through, and some minor watermarking to silk ribbon, and wear at the tip of the hem, but otherwise, it is in outstanding condition. Homespun from the 1870's and earlier is almost always in unusable shape- and I am so glad to see an amazing piece like this in such fine condition. Our model is our gorgeous Bebe Francais by Jumeau, and I know that this caplet fits her just right. If she strikes your fancy, you can see her in our shop at RLI-501.

**We now ship EVERY SINGLE ONE of our antique costume pieces in archival, museum quality, acid free tissue paper. We store them in an acid free, climate controlled environment, because we want you to get a textile that has been frozen in time. As curators of these antiques, we want them to be as fresh for the next generation of students and enthusiasts as they were for us. This is factored into the price of our merchandise. We hope you can enjoy these rare finds for years to come, and we want to make sure that when they reach you, they are ready for careful love and display if you so chose, or to be stored in a destruction-free paper. Happy shopping!**
