If one could have but only ONE wax doll in their entire life, it should be this girl. Have a look at everything else available on the market- or in museums- or in the books, and I promise- this will be the girl you keep coming back to. She is- in a word- ethereal. Transcendent. From her exquisite, original c. 1862 dress to her incredible gradient blue eyes, to her AMAZING original hand inset young goat mohair wig of 8" in length (curled- it's 12.5" straight)... we know that another Wax this precious is nowhere to be found. Not to mention her absolutely luminous wax face. She is an incredible doll and we know she belongs in a museum- or top collection, displayed prominently as a crowing gem. By the English firm Meech, this doll is an example of the best of the best dolls that we offer to our clients.
She has a poured wax head with blue glass inset eyes that melt from dark blue to ice blue with dark pupils, painted lashes, brows and red lips (perhaps touched up?) Original wax hands and feet with stunning carving and careful rendering0 all fingers prsent with details like molded fingernails. Feet have molded toenails and are in good condition for their age! (Two toes missing on left foot.) Unbelievable curly golden mohair wig with short curled bangs, amazing double braided head band of flaxen locks plaited into a delicious dutch crown. Stunning cascading golden curls fall down the back of her gown. Her presentation is on point.
She wears an UNBELIEVABLE antique printed wool day dress of the Mode Enfantine genre. An English doll such as this would have been a quick option for the expansion of a French girl's collection, to sit beside a Huret, Blampoix or Rohmer doll. This very special day gown is exactly the sort of dress a Huret poupee would have worn. Entirely hand stitched, the top of the dress is lined, and it is trimmed with a delicate black velour ribbon. Some minor touch ups to the fabric where it has worn thin, but we must remember that alone, this dress retails for around $500 in this condition. She has a complete set of undergarments that are original to her including pantaloons, a full chemise with lace top that was sewn on, and an additional crochet trimmed half slip (retail value of $250 for her incredibly rare set of undergarments from this era.) She has black antique shoes and matching beige socks. We are not going to undress her, as when we received her, we found this dress, which appears to be absolutely original to her in another trunk from the same estate- once we dressed her, we realized that taking the costume off for photographs would be detrimental to both the doll and her arms because it fits like a glove- so we can give a vivid description of the body and extremities from memory without disturbing her integrity. Simply give us a call if you need more information about it, we would be happy to discuss her.
Condition. Exquisite for her age. Head is as perfect as they come, without significant scratch or break anywhere. Arms are perfect, hands are perfect. Her right foot has some chipping to the toes, however (please see explicit photos) and the left upper leg has a very small chip to the wax. All metal attachments of wax to cloth are perfect. For the collector interested in truly one of a kind dolls, act quickly as this Wax Child will not be here long at all.
