A substantial slip fit for a substantial doll, this undergarment does NOT compromise anywhere. With a fabulous layer of lush embroidery at the hem, two layers of tucking, and some of the thickest lawn made as a base fabric, this slip will do all of the volumizing necessary for a large China or Fashion Lady's ensemble. Made probably between 1868-1872, this is a hard to find piece if you construct historically specific outfits. The beautiful hem embroidery and thick lawn date it to that particular era which we have very few pieces left from. In glorious, excellent condition, this slip is just delightful. I can see it in a museum display for certain! *Missed the piece you wanted in the sale? Check out our other 67 sale items, over TWENTY of which have been added in the last 24 hours! Waist: Between 11-13"
Condition: Excellent. This slip has absolutely no excuses and is in as close to mint condition as we find with these pieces. A quick note, it was not always common to find closures like buttons or hooks on undergarments of this period as they were simply sewn on to the dolls or pinned; see images, we pinned with one pin onto our model. Some newer collectors have asked me, "why spend so much on period appropriate clothing for your dolls?" The answer is simple, in my opinion; we spend relatively little on dressing our dolls in these fabulous antique garments compared to what we pay for them. If you collect for legacy and investment, we all know that what they are worth is directly correlated to what they wear, and this can be so key to building and curating a top collection. If your Tete Jumeau sports an all antique costume, that can raise her resale value by as much as 50% because the best collections always focus on historical accuracy and authenticity. And what better way could there be to grow your collection when you don't have $5000 for another doll? To focus on loving the ones you have with "les petites cadeaux" as my French mother would say, of course! Treat yourself, and your ladies.
**We now ship EVERY SINGLE ONE of our antique costume pieces in archival, museum quality, acid free tissue paper. We store them in an acid free, climate controlled environment, because we want you to get a textile that has been frozen in time. As curators of these antiques, we want them to be as fresh for the next generation of students and enthusiasts as they were for us. This is factored into the price of our merchandise. We hope you can enjoy these rare finds for years to come, and we want to make sure that when they reach you, they are ready for careful love and display if you so chose, or to be stored in a destruction-free paper. Happy shopping!**
