Certainly one of the rarest China lady dolls we have seen to date, this spectacular girl by Conta & Boehme is just the kind of doll that makes one stop and stare in awe. Have a look at that rare hairstyle and even rarer features. She has a wonderful aquiline nose to go with those beautiful big blue eyes... and a super rare hairstyle featuring a lace fronted snood with two large braids down either side. Every detail is just so on this beauty; from her individually stitched fingers to her delicate brush stroked temples, I know that she will be marked "Sale Pending" soon as china ladies of this quality in this large size are never on the market long. With her beautiful original body and her wonderful presentation, she is ready to crown your collection with her regal countenance and spectacular presence.
*Yes, she is available on our liberal eight month layaway plan! Give us a call anytime at 718.859.0901 to hear an in hand description of her condition, or to discuss layaway terms.~
She has a pale porcelain head in perfect original condition with that wonderful Conta & Boehme milky quality sheen. Beautiful big blue eyes, soft red lips with delicate painting. Fabulous hairstyle of rare snood with double ruffled black lace front (at crown), two massive braids down either side, and a wonderfully rendered snood at the back. Just a darling to behold!
She is on what appears to be her original body (head was reattached) with wonderful original hands in fabulous condition. Individually stitched fingers, with cloth feet. Some water marbling to the top of the body, but overall in excellent no leak condition.
Her costume is just wonderful; she sports a gorgeous summer gown in a style contemporary to her date of creation (C.1875). Many panels of lace insertion, ruffle and eyelet embroidery grace this gown that would have been worn for a summer walk in Whitby by the sea, or for a day of boating in Lille, France, or out on Long Island in New York, depending on her summer destination. The dress has a bit of discoloration on the skirt, but you must look for it to find it; it was laundered and pressed by our workshop, but, if you are particularly fastidious the discoloration is probably removable with bleach. Underneath she has a lovely full set of undergarments including a beautiful lace trimmed half slip that luxuriously grazes the floor, a nice pair of yellow Victorian leather boots, as well as a pair of socks with red bands. She has a fine set of pantaloons and an original shift that we could not remove from the body.
Condition: Wonderful condition. She is in all original shape without any excuses. She has two small pepper spots that were inherent to the mold and do not affect her value. We just don't see girls this exemplary every day! She is a find for certain.
