The doll modeling this wonderful antique cape measures 16" tall. She is not included but is used to show scale and size.
This cape is just beautiful in person. It's black and made of extremely heavy antique velvet. Inside, the lining is silk and is a silvery/gold color. The hood portion of the cape is sewn so that it has a a drawstring that can be pulled and tied in the front, and the original ribbon drawstring is intact. I have not tried to cinch it up so as not to damage the ties. Because of the way this piece is constructed, it could be used on various sized dolls depending on whether you wanted the cape to be long (floor length) or 3/4 length. The hood portion can be adjusted to fit many sizes of doll heads.
The entire piece measures 14" long, the hooded portion measures 6" long. The width is 9.5" at the drawstring and is 24" wide across the bottom.
The condition is excellent. There is one mended spot just above the drawstring one one side where it looks like the velvet and the lining became separated. This is a very old repair. There is a snap sewn into the bottom on one side. There may have been one on the opposite side at one time, but it's no longer there. The lining is stained as shown, but there is no shattering or splitting.
It's a fabulous, early piece and will be a wonderful addition to a discerning lady's trousseau.
